Depression is a common mental disorder that presents with depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure in regular activities, decreased energy, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, and poor concentration.

Veterans Major depressive disorder is the most prevalent and disabling form of depression. In addition to the immediate symptoms of depression, MDD results in poor quality of life overall, decreased productivity, and can increase mortality from suicide. Social difficulties including stigma, loss of employment, and marital conflict as a result of depression can also occur. Anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and substance misuse are common co-occurring conditions that may worsen the existing depression and complicate treatment. Depression is considered to be a largely biological illness but can result from a combination of genetic, biological, environmental, and psychological factors. Trauma, loss of a loved one, a difficult relationship, or any stressful situation may trigger depression, but depression can also occur without an obvious trigger.

Military personnel are prone to depression, at least partially as a result of exposure to traumatic experiences, including witnessing combat, and separation from family during deployment or military trainings.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) proposes to amend the portion of the rating schedule dealing with mental disorders, including revising the General Rating Formula for Mental Disorders and combining currently separate General Rating Formula for Mental Disorders with the General Rating Formula for Eating Disorders in the VA Schedule for Rating Disabilities (VASRD or rating schedule).

I'm currently seeing a therapist PTSD related..
Beirut Lebanon 1983. USMC.
Hopefully I will get my increase.
I have been dealing with this since the 90s and I dragged my feet on it. Im glad you are letting VETERANS know how and what we need to be doing for ourselves.
Thanks man.

Big update so the VA kicked my claim last June to supplemental when I filed for PTSD and had it going under Major Depressive Disorder. Today it updated to show my original PTSD claim along side the MDD. Do you have a email I can reach out to you on? Wanna show some screen shots.

I am a non-combat retired veteran, Cold War era, have chronic back pain and feet pain, which was my disability when I retired 21 years ago. Have just filed and diagnosed by a psychologist with major depressive disorder and anxiety. Due to the chronic pain. I have submitted my personal statement as well as my wife has submitted a personal statement. I have an actual DBQ with a C and P exam on 21 May. Other than the diagnosis, and my last year and a half having gone to the VA for my primary physical disabilities which caused the pain, is there anything else that needs to be submitted for this C and P exam?

Yeah man i have alot of evidence for GERD and they lowballed me at 10%. Went for anotha C & P exam, and the doctor took like not even a minute to talk to me and that was it, he said he will put down whatever i told him on it. I called him again and asked if he he wrote down the things i mentioned to him, just to double check, because it was weird the C & P exam was so short. Should have hard pressed him and asked him alot of questions, but who knows what the decision letter is going to say.

😂”you can’t rollover and kiss your souse. You can peck at ‘em. Question Biden Dawg. I was reviewing my medical records from the VA and found depression and anxiety dx back to 2016. PTSD was also listed. So fast-forward to 2024, I have a PTSD dx from a private doctor. I also had some physical stuff, ie back, sciatica. I didn’t even remember this stuff. Is this the medical history we need for C&P exam?
