When filing a VA disability claim for depression, there are three crucial elements that you need to establish:

A current diagnosis of depression: You must have an official diagnosis from a qualified medical professional.

A link between your depression and military service: You must be able to show that your depression is a result of your time in the military.

Evidence of impairment: Your depression must have a significant impact on your daily life, such as affecting your ability to work or perform daily tasks.

In summary, securing VA disability benefits for depression can be a challenging process, but by following these tips and strategies, you can increase your chances of success. Great informative video Combat Craig. I have a 10% tinnitus service connected rating and with my neuropathy which puts me at 80% currently. I've been having more depression lately and the ringing in my ears is worse than before. Thanks for all of the great content that you provide to us veterans.

I was diagnosed with the 9434 depression diagnostic code while I was on active duty and was medicated during active duty for it. I filed my initial disability claim before getting out and clearing post. I had a c&p exam shortly after getting out, answered the questions and was awarded for 50% for it back in 2015. I got a letter saying it was static in 2020. I just received my code sheet by email from my vso and it shows all my conditions as service connected and static and I was just awarded migraines and hypertension secondary to depression in 2023 and my code sheet says they are static as well. If you have a diagnosis and it’s in your va re peds or your private medical records or your service treatment records from all your military hospitals ers sick calls I don’t see why there should be so many problems in the va sending you to a c&p exam and awarding you based on the severity or your condition and symptoms. I am debating filing for an increase for depression since mine has gotten a whole lot worse. But I have enough future claims to get to me to 100% with out jeopardizing my future permanent and total.

You only need a Nexus letter if you don’t have any evidence in your service files correct? Examples being therapy sessions and diagnosis

I thought that filing a secondary to something already approved supersedes a nexus.
