Hello, Ronnie. I guess you have missunderstood the situation with he/she x his/her that actually causes confusion among portuguese/spanish speakers. It's perfectly clear for us the use of his/her when they are possessive pronoums (wich was the case of all the examples you used). The confusion lays at the use of them as adverbial adjuncts. For example: "she played wih HER yesterday". In portuguese, this sentence is translated as "Ela brincou com ELA ontem". Because in our language in this situation we translate both "SHE" and "HER" as the same word "ELA", may be a little confuse to some of us. But in "HER dog" the portuguese equivalent is "cachorro DELA", so we don't mistake it with "SHE". I guess that's it. Thank you for your excellent work!
