"Stop cutting corners" as he literally cuts corners 😂

However, floating wood floors will move and expand at different rates in different rooms. Sometimes you need a threshold to prevent the separation. Takes experience to know and threshold accordingly. Wood.

I did this exact same job, installed in my home by me, 20 years ago. It still looks brand new, oh that was for the entire house, in 1 piece!!!

That grey flooring is so ugly with the orange wood finish

The reason that a threshold is sometimes desired at each doorway is to allow for easier repair when a section of flooring is damaged. When each room is isolated, you can even change the whole floor in a room to something else if that’s what someone wants.

I was always taught you don't want to go too much sq footage without thresholds because of movement and hot cold cycles. I did this exactly on a job somewhat recently because the customer wanted it one run. Expressed my concern . I made them sign a release waiver that if it moved and popped or buckled pieces they would have to pay to repair. Solid concrete slab. All the correct prep was done, i do my floors the right way. 8 months later in 1 large door opening and 2 other spots, buckled, or pulled apart. Put thresholds in, not a problem since.

You have the threshold so the floor can move like it’s supposed to. This floor will buckle and separate. Install the floor to specs and you won’t have a problem.

Thresholds between rooms are sometimes needed as per manufacturer's instructions. Expansion, contraction over a large area. Use to do it all together but that was 30 years ago. Follow the installation instructions

I like the no threshold look. I hate putting them in, but only as transition to different flooring.

27 years in trades i never saw anyone except maybe a homeowner do that. Upgrade and buy the jam circular saw made for that. Its better then a multi tool

No quarter round only works on jobs that A. Are new construction or B. Customer does not want the base removed or replaced. I will use a multi tool for trimming door jambs but I will not cut the bottom of all base boards.

If there’s rolls in the floor qtr round is recommended. It’s a floating floor you can’t press door jambs down or base down into it to get it flat, if the floors not level use qtr round. As far as door jambs go you’re absolutely right get an undercut saw or use the oscillating tool. I’d use the undercut saw through the entirety of the house I would only ever use the oscillating tool if it’s one jamb, takes too much time in comparison and the blades wear too fast. Job looks good.

Perfect
Much easier the way your doin it
Quarter round is so much more time cuts work whatever plus it cuts down the area

If the manufacturer of the vinyl says transitions every so often, don’t skip it, cause they will not warranty the product and it will cost you big time if there is a problem.

Beautiful! I love the way you cut your corners...off 😂

One yes you can put the quarter inch Gap around the perimeter underneath the baseboard, and eliminate the need for a quarter round but most customers like the quarter round look as well. And you should always undercut your doorways.

If I’m putting flooring in the trim will go on after the fact. I do not use thresholds either unless customer specifies. Just leave spacing between your flooring and your walls like ALL flooring manufacturers tell you too and then your trim will cover the gaps. That way if your floor moves it has room to do so. If it is a remodel I will remove the trim to install it.

Threshold also provides a psychological transfer to define the boundary of the room. Also can help prevent debris from going under the door etx

That base moulding on before finish floor goes down makes your job harder. Undercut casing and door jambs. Base moulding can go on after. Dont use quarter round as a shoe. Get shoe, or remove the base first! Then you wont need shoe! Under cutting that entire length of base is gonna cost you those multi tool blades

Fire the designer who chose the color of the floors. In the video it’s shows up as grey when they should have gone with a soft natural oak tone. ❤
