I live right next to a river so we have lots of mosquito here. I do not like or use insect repellent sprays. I wear light colored long sleeve shirts. I don't wear shorts, I wear long pants and boots. I will wear a mosquito net when they get real bad, you need a fully brimmed hat to hold the net away from your face, neck, and ears or else the mosquito will bite you right through the net. I bought a dozen head nets a couple years ago and keep one in each of my backpacks, and have spares for friends. The main place mosquito bite me is the back of my hands. I have Citronella bushes in my yard, I pick a single leaf and rub it on the back of my hands. I also have a thin pair of gardening gloves I cut the fingertip areas (not the whole end of the glove finger) out of the thumb and first finger (which allows me to still feel things and use touch screens) and rub a Citronella leaf on the back of the gloves.

The smoking fungi is a really good idea. Back in my youth when camping I would put some campfire coals in an old cutout can and put green pine needles on top to produce smoke. Worked. Best

Outstanding ! I've been camping for nearly 40 years and I didn't know you could use that mushroom to help rid the area of mosquitoes. Thanks, now I know.

Another great video and great helpful tips. Using a red colored lens on your flashlight doesn't attract bugs..it's also help to preserve your "night vision" in the dark. Not quite as bright as a regular light but reduces bug attraction.

Thank you for sharing. You offered some great suggestions. I often use tea tree oil around the face and the hands. It seems to work pretty well. Take care out there. 🤗

You touched a lot of great points. I have noticed from experience, its best not to wearing a head torch. You are so right about the insects being irritating. Dried sage being lit and then left to smoke works really well. I guess that would be more for being outside at home. Take care.

Great video Becky. Up here we have the dreaded midgy by the millions! They seem to come in clouds and are a proper pain. Once I had to remove my fleece I was wearing before I went in the house because it was absolutely full of them and a lot of them had managed to get in under my clothes and I had been bitten all over my back and chest. I was a mass of very itchy red lumps.
I much prefer the natural methods like you outlined around camp and I think they work better. If your moving around away from camp or just on a walk then I’ve used Jungle Formula. I’ve seen the cream and never thought to give it a go but I will try it next time. In the army we used to use stuff that would melt the plastic buckles on your backpacks if you got any on them.
That camp of yours looks so awesome. What a lovely place to escape to. Thanks for uploading and take care Becky x

Thanks Becky, for another of your delightful videos. A trick that I've found useful is to keep an old long sleeve shirt that has been saturated with a good DEET based repellent in a sealed plastic bag. When out prowling the muskegs of Ontario, and along the border: I just take it out of the plastic bag and put it on, it works well and keeps the mosquitos away. When I've finished wandering, I just put it back in the bag until I need it again. Once in awhile it needs to be treated with DEET spray to keep maintain its effectiveness. Also burning dried ungulate dung, such as deer, moose, or elk scat will help the keep the little vampires at bay... be well and stay safe.... Cheers.

I'm not sure why I am watching this as it's February... But your chilled out vibe, your golden complexion and hearing the sounds of cuckoos in the background makes me reminisce of summer!

have some mosquito mixes for you to try. here goes: 1. 2 tablespoons of dried lavender, 2 cups of water, make into a tea and let set up for about 4 hours, put in a spray bottle and all around inside the hut you are going to sleep in before bed . 2. 40 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to a cup of warm water and let set for awhile put in a spray bottle to spray on your skin and clothing. 3. get sum limes warm them up in your hands then cut in half cut a little off the ends to make them stand up and put 5 to 8 cloves in them and put them around your camp site to keep them away in joy

Rubbing alcohol or lighter fluid on your bites stops them itching. I find horse flies are the biggest problem for me but a splash of lighter fluid stops the bites swelling up. It's also useful for lighting fires :P

My mother would put an X on the bite using her finger nail using enough pressure to leave an actual X in your skin on the actual bump. It works quite well if you do get a few bites.

You can treat clothes (not skin!) with permethrin (or pyrethrin), it's effective against ticks too. Safer than deet on your skin. One treatment (soak or spray) will last a season. Also good for mosquito netting.
A quick dab of household cleaning ammonia stops itching, it's the main ingredient of the after-bite pens.

Great topic to cover. Depemding on the weather of the day i may use deet or long sleeves. Around camp i use uco citronella candles . Once again birch and pine prove as useful as oak and williow.

Good video! Love the mushroom smoke can! If I use repellent it is 100% deet, for me if I eat dill pickles and rub the juice on my skin it keeps allot of mosquitoes away, native Americans used skunk oil to stop bugs from pestering them, I prefer pickles :) love this video!
