The choppy movement will always be sooo appealing to me, even i myself like to sorta recreate that style of animation when doing my own stuff.
I especially like the Megaman animations and SMB2

While fluid animations are definitely nice, and preferred in most cases, I think I'd rather see MORE animation, even if it's just a few frames, rather than few but fluidly animated animations. For example, Undertale has a lot of my gripes with this.

Undertale has both limited frames AND limited animations, and as a result, the game is very unappealing to me visually at best, and actively immersion breaking at worse. Best example I can give is Frisk. They do nothing but walk the whole game and it's just two frames. It's jarring having them still ealk with just 2 frames, when actively being hunted by Undyne throwing spears. Why is there no run button, and a 2 frame running animation? That moment immediately pulled me out of the game with how ridiculous it looked; I've seen more animation in limitrf memory NES games.

Interesting thing about Mario's walk cycle in the first Mario is that it's only half of a cycle.
