Killer7 is one of my favorite "old" games, and the style still holds up today. The cell-shaded graphics work in it's favor, and it has cool as hell menus.

It also recently got a PC Port, so it probably looks even better than it did before.

Vanillaware games are masterpieces in terms of artdesign, visuals and sounds. I wish there were a pc port of Muramasa or GrimGrimoire

The old Pokémon on the DS looks fantastic

You're right about the cell shading. The problem with games trying to look more realistic is that in few years time they just become outdated, and it kinda hurts their replay value. Though if a game is good, then graphics shouldn't be a bother!

One game I still think looks good till this day is MGS 4. I can’t wait to try out the PC emulator that’s still in the works.

I think older Tales of games like Abyss and Symphonia look great. Paper Mario 64 also aged very well.

Risen is such a compelling game. It didn't look great at the time of release to be honest, as it felt "old", but oh how it's aged well. Totally worth playing for those who want to be in an RPG that has a lived in world. Very Dragon's Dogma kinda world. The major issue is the generational aesthetic then of SO MUCH BROWN to make textures and cities look "real."

I don't know many people outside of Germany that have played Piraha Bytes games. They are still one of my favorite game developers. I love Gothic 1 and 2, but didn't get very far into 3 before I stopped. The first two had beautiful handbuilt worlds. The third felt like a handful of beautiful handbuilt locations put into a huge, generic and empty world. I liked Risen, because it took a step back to a smaller but more consistent world. Never finished it, but I remember liking to play it because it had the same charm as the older Gothics. Haven't played 2 or 3 yet and jumped straight to Elex.
I think a lot of the games made between 2008 and 2012 still look good today. And while newer games do look a bit better, they also don't look that much better to justify needing tripple the space on the hdd. Today it's all like: "This years CoD looks a tiny bit more realitic than last years CoD, but needs 150GB compared to the 60GB of that one that only looked a tiny bit better than the 20GB version from a year before!" And that's pretty much why I don't buy graphic blenders from mainstream publishers. They all look the same anyway and play like shit, because they spent all the budget on licensing the newest Unreal Engine instead of gameplay mechanics!

Mafia I on the PC looks still incredible great for the age of the game.

I'm so glad you included Gen IV Pokémon games in your list. I absolutely love the art style, graphics and UI (particularly in HG/SS). I totally agree with them having a unique look, and in my opinion they are the best looking games in the series, at least from the main ones.

I think Chrono Trigger for the SNES still looks amazing. The colors are vivid and the sprite and animation work is top notch. The landscapes and backgrounds are surprisingly detailed for a game on 16 bit hardware.

You mentioned it in the video but The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (the original on the Gamecube) is still a beautifully looking game! Also the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy for the SNES! Always love coming back to these games for the stellar gameplay and of course the beautiful visuals!

A good one to check out that would fit in in this video was Black on PS2. That game blew my mind when it came out.

Paper Mario aged really well. Due to the style being low poly paper contraptions the only thing that looks old on those first 2 games is the resolution and textures

I hope they will port Muramasa to PC in the future. As for my choice of the oldie games, No One Lives Forever 2 is my top choice. I don't think we ever had any good 60s/70s spy action games ever since.
