You can just say 'easier.'
"More easier" is a double comparative

"Alot more easier" to not trust this guy 😂😂

But… No. AI upscaling just doesn’t work. At this point, just do a remaster, or a hd edition. Do what Zelda did instead of taking the easy way and just using AI. We have seen AI upscaling on anime and games, and it just never looks right.

Imagine if FSR4 or DLSS4 could be used with old games at native res to replace methods like MSAA, they would not only look better but also run better

if i take a texture pack, that is 4k, and downscale it to 720, how can I while in game, match the 720 to the resultion of my screen at 4k?

Ah, I understand what you're trying to do! You want to use a downscaled 720p texture pack on your 4K screen, but have it look like it's actually 4K. This is a clever way to potentially improve performance while still having a visually appealing result.

Here's how you can achieve this in-game:

1. Downscale the Texture Pack:

As you mentioned, you'll need to downscale your 4K texture pack to 720p using a good image editor like Photoshop or GIMP. Make sure to use a high-quality resampling method during the downscaling process.
2. In-Game Settings:

Resolution: Set your in-game resolution to your monitor's native 4K resolution.
Texture Settings: This is where it gets a bit tricky, and it depends on the game you're playing. Some games might have options to adjust texture filtering or sharpness. Experiment with these settings to see if you can get the 720p textures to look sharper on your 4K screen.
Upscaling (If Available): Some games have built-in upscaling features (like FSR or DLSS). If your game supports this, you might be able to use it to upscale the 720p textures to 4K. This can often produce good results.
3. External Upscaling Tools:

If your game doesn't have built-in upscaling, you can try using external tools like Lossless Scaling. These tools can upscale your game's output to your desired resolution. You would set your game to run at 720p, and then the tool would upscale it to 4K. This can be a very effective way to make your 720p textures look better on a 4K screen.
Important Considerations:

Game Engine: How well this works will depend on the game engine and how it handles textures. Some engines might be more forgiving than others.
Texture Filtering: Anisotropic filtering can help to make textures look sharper at different angles, which can be beneficial when using downscaled textures.
Performance: While using 720p textures on a 4K screen can improve performance, the impact might not be huge, especially if your GPU is already powerful enough to handle 4K textures.

We've been using "AI Upscaling" on emulators for almost 20 years. Seriously i remember turning on the interpolation on OpenEmu on my 2008 macbook to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles with smooth textures.
This shit isnt new, and its never been good.
Keep the AI where it belongs, in NPCs.
Even games that actually try to use modern AI (like vaudeville) suck.
Ai just sucks. Its bad. And i say this as an artist who uses image generation software to make references for me. AI is a tool. And without HEAVY artist interference, these projects just look like smooth garbage.

Or just adjust emulator settings and they look fine when you change the resolution output?

AI upscaling does not equate to HD and sick to death of people peddling it as such
