Honestly, if the companies sold the old games as roms for emulators for a cheap price, say 5 to 10 bucks, I would gladly buy them. But they don't so that's a missed opportunity.

Video game companies should either have sites where you can pay for ROMs of their games, or they should have their games come with digital codes that you can redeem to get a ROM to use on an emulator. Kind of like how DVD releases of movies come with digital copy codes.

As long as I have owned it at some point, I'll download it for my convenience and upgrades. I bought metroid prime on launch day so therefore I'll download the rom so I can play it at 1440p.

Besides, people don't really buy the games anymore. The old ones that is.
As long as we don't get the hot and new ones, I don't think we are harming the company.

ROMS should be available for sale, I mean official licensed roms, let's say you could buy the original 1985 Mario Bros. For 2 or 5 bucks, that would be fair to pay, the industry needs to understand that gamers appreciate oldies and classics, and if you can't download them for obvious reasons, then you should be able to buy them somewhere.

What's annoying is if you go to a retro video game store they're selling these systems like the snes and nes for 150 dollars and selling these games for an astronomical amount of money. How is it not illegal for them to make triple the amount of money on this stuff while these companies aren't but if I buy a classic nes on Facebook that has all the nes roms on it from an advertisement for 150 dollars I'm breaking the law?

One thing to note is that it is legal but in one way, many should know that if you buy the game it is somewhat considered legal

What I recommend doing. So you won’t get arrested is just to dump the files from the physical copy of the game since that’s actaully legal as most emulators reconnect that

If you ask me, i think roms should be legal but with exceptions.

For example, if a company has no interest in bringing an old game back on newer hardware or reselling it, then it could be viable.

However, if they plan to bring it back or resell it, then that's when the law comes into play.
