Nintendo in that Q&A basically said:
“We COULD offer old games that aren’t available on our current system, but we just don’t feel like it.”

Makes me that much happier that a forked version of Ryujinx is still being somewhat maintained on Github

And then it comes out that the Nintendo Museum emulates their own games

I'm not for pirating newer games, that's unfair to the developers. Especially if it's an indie game. But old games shouldn't only be playable for the rich. Who can afford the costly physical copies.

Now those emulators should sue Nintendo

I've started just making backups of all software I purchase

I love Nintendo games, and the consoles are special, but the more I learn about them as a company, the harder it is to like them. They’re so anti-user

It would be a different story if the emulators Nintendo took down DID circumvent those measures. As in, in one timeline someone sneezed whereas in the other they didn't, but still

Problem...people unaffiliated with Ryujinx were doing exactly what Nintendo was warning not to. Case in Point, Echoes of Wisdom leaked 2 weeks before its release date and pictures of Ryujinx being used to play it were floating around the net. So the devs of Ryujinx are fine, the users are not.

Can’t wait for the joycon mice to be used to emulate pc games on the switch 2

circumventing protection measures is legal if necessary for interoperability
just remember, if Nintendo is claiming something is illegal it's because it threatens them, not because it's true

Well let’s see what happens now hopefully emulating will be more widely accepted in the future

Why don’t we pass laws similar to movies an ips that once it reaches a certain age the copyright becomes null and avoid and become public domain, but in the case of video games it becomes legal to download it and no longer is protected by copyright laws anymore, I’d say 20 years is more than fair enough

Ive never had any issue with emulating games that are no longer being sold most likely on a console that is also not being sold, but i dont get why people get upset when nintendo takes action for people emulating their current console games.

The “emulation is illegal” bit was not wholly true. That screenshot is taken from Nintendo’s Australian website, a country that has no legislation or existing cases to protect backing up your own games and using them within an emulator. In Australia, unofficial emulators basically ARE illegal.

I played Pokémon Red and Blue on my gaming PC. And yes, I did own the cartridge for every console game I played on PC.

yeah, idk
i’d be pretty pissed too if people were emulating the games of my current console instead of buying them

Nintendo's lawyers doing overtime just to find the smallest gap to sue someone and calling it illegal
