West Africans have been consuming palm oil for ages yet we never experienced the diseases you mentioned till the western diet became widely available

You know what is also bad? Sugar and salt, not just palm oil. This is the problem with process food in general but most of the people in India cannot afford healthier alternatives because it is costly

I come from Malaysia which is a major producer of palm oil and most Malaysians consume palm oil on a daily basis. However, there is no significantly high rates of heart disease or cancer among Malaysians that can be attributed to palm oil consumption.

Thank you for the brief and concise story.
I am studying palm and most of other oils since almost 2 decades.
I partially agree with the reporter and other studies mentioned in this report.
1. Agree on limit the use of ALL oils.
2. Disagree that the solid stuff clog the arteries, human body temperature is 37 C.
3. Additional information: Not only palm oil generate GE (bad compounds) but ALL oils generate these compounds when heated at high temperatures.
4. A biased and not complete study (covering more parameters in the study) in the island of beautiful Mauritius.

The problem with palkis presentation is it ends in ten minutes-we need long documentaries -She makes researched, organized presentation and well argued works -Love vantage from Africa

When we were kids, Groundnut oil was our go to oil, but then govt. suddenly promoted palm oil, by distributing via PDS, so my parents switched to it, for several years we were using this oil only.

Refined or unrefined? That for me, is the most important question.
Refinement suggests an increase in bad fats.
I make my own palm oil at home. It is unrefined. It works way better for me. I wish she would go into detail.

And why is all the palm oil looking yellow in the video? Mine is red. What is that yellow thing?

Don’t see a study linking your comments
Palm oil may be healthier than a lot of other oils.

Indonesia is one of the first use of palm oil. The largest producer of the world.
When I was young, at 1970, Indonesia already have palm oil and use it. At that time, the life expectancy is 55-60.
Now in 2020, Indonesia use almost all palm oil as cooking oil, life expectancy is 70+.
Of course, Oil if too much is not good. Make you fat and high cholesterol.. Oil is fat.
But its good as a staple food for middle/low class people that need "fat" as a food supplement.
And if you boil any oil too hot until smoke(over boiling point), it's dangerous ... Any oil over boiling point is no good.
So... Palm oil is good or not?

I passed on this video to an experienced chemical engineer. His reply:

My Points below:-

1. Potential palmitic acid benefits include supporting skin health, having anti-inflammatory effects and potentially supporting metabolic health, antioxidative value

2. Fatty acids with higher levels of unsaturation are oxidized more rapidly during heating in air. For example, linoleic acid containing two double bonds is oxidized about 12 times faster than monounsaturated oleic acid, while linolenic acid, containing three double bonds, is oxidized about 25 times faster (Belitz et al. 2009).

3. Higher levels of unsaturation mean more oxidation during frying, so canola and soybean oils produce significantly more 2, 4-decadienal (aldehyde) than olive and palm oils.

4. Higher unsaturation in soy bean oil, canola oil results in higher trans fatty acid

5. When other vegetable oils eg olive oil is heated for repeated frying cycles, it's antioxidant levels are significantly reduced. The oil then deteriorates over time, and may cause trans fatty acid, 3-MCPDE and GE formation

Palm oil still remain the best ahead of some many seeds oil it old depends on the process . Western specialists like stigmatizing anything they can’t produce or grow. Yes palm oil may have some issues but most seed oils have more ⚠️ dangers than palm oil

Palm oil is a popular ingredient in many consumer goods because it is relatively inexpensive and has a long shelf life. It is also used as a cooking oil and in the production of biofuels. Additionally, the oil palm tree, which produces palm oil, is highly efficient at converting sunlight into oil, making it a more sustainable crop than some other oil-producing crops.
Oil palm is relatively easy to grow and harvest, making it a cost-effective ingredient. Additionally, palm oil is rich in nutrients such as carotenoids, tocotrienols, and monounsaturated fatty acids, which have been scientifically shown to have health benefits.

Planting oil palm benefit many poor rural small holders in several ways. It is a high-yielding crop that can provide a steady source of income for farmers. Additionally, oil palm can be grown on marginal lands that may not be suitable for other crops, providing farmers with an opportunity to expand their agricultural land. Furthermore, oil palm has a relatively short maturity period compared to other crops, which means farmers can expect to see a return on their investment relatively quickly.

My ancestors have eaten palm oil for hundreds of years. Because that is all they know, 5 to 6 times per week.
I did the same thing until I traveled overseas. Then I cut back because palm oil was expensive and sometimes hard to get.
In my first 2 years, my health was very good. As I cut down on palm oil, I started getting bad results for my health, cholesterol, and so on.
What I want to say is whole countries should have been wiped out because that is all they eat.
Please reach this story in depth.
I love her that is why I am following her progress and I am glad for her.
But the story she tells is been written by a team of others.
Palm oil is bringing so much revenue to poor countries. And the expensive countries that produce this expensive oil like olive oil, peanut oil,
Sunflower seed oil is left behind. Let's hope the competitors are taking this with a noble heart. 😩.
As I said palm oil has been consumed for hundreds of years.
Please do a better reach for the beautiful, brilliant lady. She just started.
Don't run people off before she even started.

If palm oil is so dangerous, the entire population of W Africa (the home of oil palm) would have been wiped out by now.
