A demon choosing a champion is a bit pointless; they’d always just say Lucifer

This battle is one of the few examples in cinema that accurately show how god like beings would fight one another.

Edited: so apparently not everyone can be bothered to read my previous responses. 🙄

If you read other mythologies and legends, the fights literally go like the battles shown here.

Not everything has to be a DC or DBZ style fight. To me it makes sense that God's would battle other gods using concepts vs real fist because they are concepts.

Idk why some of you getting triggered. Was there some kind of God fighting rules that got agreed on and I missed the memo? 😂

In the comic, it's Choronzon and Dream who battled, when he lost Lucifer had him wrapped in barbed wired and had him removed by Agony and Ecstasy calling him pathetic

Dream is not a god, for even gods dream, he's the anthropomorphic representation of all that means to Dream

This battle was actually pretty cool even though they didn't have any physical fight scenes

Yeah, and what they didn't expect was for him to beat the lord of hell.

"I choose you, Lucifer." "And you?" "I also choose you, Lucifer."

Unless the mortal acquired the helm "lawfully" then it dm if Choronzon didn't break any laws, because the helmet was never the mortals to trade in the first place...

While I found the changes made to Lucifer a bit pointless in this episode the fight itself was a masterclass in storytelling. From how Lucifer arranged Morpheus's entire journey through hell to twist his spirits and the duel as a way to prove the Morningstar's own superiority right down to the WAY Morpheus won. You could tell the instant that Dream embodied the concept of hope that Lucifer COULD win, that they knew how to kill hope, but that the very act of doing so would destroy their own desire to one day be redeemed back into heaven. Rather than defeating the devil, Morpheus made the price of victory too high for them to pay which just fits in with the theme of the episode so well!

God I loved all of these actors. Small and big. They rocked this series.

“I traded it for a paltry thing”
That paltry thing was an amulet that not only prevents the wearer from being harmed by practically anything, but it proceeds to reverse and multiply the damage dealt a dozen fold.
Basically it’s a medallion that functions like the mark of Cain
