He concedes yet also threatens to withdraw the gift of dreams from Hell.
Which would be utter disaster for Hell.
Hope is the seed, and a dream is its fruit.
That threat is how he leaves ... unharmed and unopposed.

Everyone keeps talking about how this fight shows two deities using concepts or reality to fight but no one notices dreams subtle change in plan during the fight. He stops trying to kill Lucifer after the snake and instead wants to become something that can nurture her. He shifts gears so quickly to give her exactly what she desires and dreams about because he is the dream lord and that is his authority and duty

It wasn't just that he called on hope. That alone was dangerous to the kingdom of darkness and had to stopped there. It was the moves after. Despair can crush hope, but hope can be renewed. To overpower hope though... only one force is stronger, love. Either love would be unleashed, or if it carried out in that exact pattern, well... Darkness over there isn't a big fan of love, never would have called on it, or unleash it. The was moving to the light, darkness had to concede.

I love the difference between these two, one is constantly trying to kill and the other just trying to survive, and hope is the strongest force in the universe, the hope that at the end of life each living being scratches and claws in hopes of surviving
