Simone Biles is defending her team. The three-time Olympic gymnast seemingly weighed in on MyKalya Skinner’s recent controversial comments about the 2024 gymnastics Olympic team. Although the 28-year-old didn’t mention the silver Olympic medalist by name, she wrote on Threads, “not everyone needs a mic and a platform.” The post came after MyKayla sparked controversy in a since-deleted YouTube video where she said, “Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and depth just isn’t like what it used to be.” Since her video sparked backlash, MyKayla has apologized and clarified her comments in a video shared to her Instagram Story on July 3. MyKayla traveled with Simone to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and won silver on the vault. This time Simone is back for her third Olympics with Suni Lee, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Hezly Rivera. The team is already highly decorated. Simone has seven Olympics medals. Suni, Jordan and Jade are now two-time Olympians after competing in the 2020 Olympic games where Suni won gold in the women all-around. You can watch Team USA compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics starting July 26th on NBC and Peacock.

Suni has no work ethic? You try getting back into elite gymnastics after having kidney problems

She LITERALLY said “that girl who fell twice and still got second” referring to Suni and literally went personal by person bashing them in the *now DELETED* video. Oh I wish someone would reupload it to prove what she said was to be rude, mean and a bully. She thinks she’s 2002 Simon Cowell but even he changed GURL it’s 2024 mean is not cute!

Honestly I think the depth in USA gymnastics has actually gotten deeper over the last few years. Skinner would not have been a factor these days. She was a mediocre gymnast who got lucky that Simone pulled out so she could compete in vault. She isn’t the brightest person and has always been the type to put her foot in her mouth. The way she kept going on about Suni’s body type was unnecessary as well.

Not her promoting toxicity in gymnastics culture smh

For her to question the work ethic of a gymnast makes me wonder if you even know your own sport. These young women have to committed in order to be succesful. You have to put in the time at an early age and be consistent throughout. It's not a sport where you can coast on raw talent. It has to be developed from a young age. You have to put in the time and effort. How dare you question their work ethic

I guess she didn’t realize others could respond to an “opinion, ” but to flat out lie and gaslight in an apology, makes her even a bigger a-hole.

Sweetie, nobody “misinterpreted” what you said. Just apologize and go back to being obscure.

that's why she got unfollowed by the whole team

Talk about gaslighting at its finest. Why did I support her during her comeback?

I appreciate the diversity of the Olympic gymnastic teams this year: male and female. They've been so fun to watch. I don't know who this 'MyKayla' is.

That doesn’t sound like an apology.. that is a cowardly excuse… she knows what she said.. doesn’t Suni have an Olympic gold medal and MyKayla does not? Work ethic, uh huh…

Honestly? This team is an amazing story of work ethic, dedication, perseverance and the blossom of youth with Hezly. Yes, we will definitely miss Shi and Skye and Kay, But the team we have is amazing. 4 of these athletes know what this is like and have the experience to crush it. With their support, Hezly will have more confidence. Skinner is just mad she didn’t stay in the game.

I dont get these people who lament not being able to abuse others and get away with it. She's upset women aren't actively being SA by USA gymnastics anymore? Good luck to any kids she has.

McKayala made such nasty comments about these girls, I couldn't even continue watching the video. Shawn Johnson also did a "Live Olympic Trials Reaction" and the difference was stark. It was clear that the difference in mindset is why Shawn made the team and snagged the all-around silver and McKayla never even made an Olympic team. She should focus on raising her daughter and work on herself. She has a terrible mindset. She says things to seek attention and stir up controversy. Bitter is not a good look!

There is no room in anything she said for misinterpretation. The fact that she tries to justify the abuse that used to occur under USAG and the Karolyis is simply shocking. There is no place for abuse in any sport and it isn’t going to turn out better athletes. If it wasn’t for Simone Biles coach then there would have been no Simone had she been under the full control of the Karolyis. Not everyone flourishes under that kind of abuse. Simone struggled under the Karolyis and it was only her coach which stepped in to protect her which stopped her going under completely. Those women on the current team have worked so hard and come through their own individual struggles to get onto the team. They earned their place on the team and she had no right to question their place nor does she have the right to fat shame or judge their performance. From what I remember of her performance she was always trying to push the boundaries but it was always a mess and she could never pull it off.

Suni is the Olympic all-around champion, Jade is the floor gold medalist and would have likely medaled on the vault if she didn't have a misstep, not to mention here vaults have more amplitude and have better form than Skinners. If you put those three up in a three up, three count scenario, they will have some of the highest scores, if not the highest scores in the competition. Chiles is a very consistent, solid athlete all-around athlete with more overall difficulty than Skinner, and Hezly is the junior champion, better than Skinner on bars and beam. The events that Skinner could have contributed with in the team competition - Vault and Floor are already accounted for.

SafeSport is not just involved with gymnastics, but plenty of other national and international sports and organizations.

Some of the main requirements include not traveling / lodging alone with minors as a singular adult, having another adult present when in a closed door meeting / training session with an athlete, no exchange of phone calls/ emails/ texts of a personal nature with athletes...

Sure...let's get rid of those completely nonsensical rules...🤨😒

You wouldn't even know MS was an Olympian/NCAA athlete. I think it's merely sour grapes because three have successfully sandwiched NCAA careers between two Olympic Team memberships. The salt is real on the 2x Alternate, who has leveraged her career quite well. It seems she holds deep resentment for the blessings, lacking in gratitude for the favor bestowed upon her in exchange for relishing in favor of others. Being an alternate who bagged a silver medal on vault is not to spat on. Many Olympians return home with the experience and are grateful for achieving qualifications when so many can only dream of putting together a successful journey towards it.

But it all goes to show you that you can have a bucket of sand and someone who owns an entire paradise island can still envy your bucket of sand.
