Hey dude, there isnt a good video out there on doing the hot pass. I'm an acetylene welder, working on getting my downhill certs. I have had people show me a few different ways to hot pass. Grinding it clean, turn down the heat than simply stepping it in, or grinding down to wagon track, scrapping down as I step and long arc it to fill, than not grinding it much at all, cranking up the heat and pushing it in as I work down, than long arc to fill. It always seems to require to step it at the bottom tho and utilize the fast freeze feature of the rod. Anyways, it would be a pretty sweet video showing and explaining in depth the different methods in hot passing from top of pipe to bottom on a 12" buttweld. One thing that a lot of welders on youtube dont emphasize in their videos is the difference of rod manipulation on the top of pipe, side of pipe and bottom, and the change in heat as you go down the pipe.
