SHORT Island Runway - Florida’s Tiniest Airport

Today Caralyn and I are flying my little Vans RV-12 over to Cedar Key's George T Lewis Airport. This runway is the shortest public paved runway in Florida, and there have been many accidents, incidents, and crashes with airplanes landing here. Depending on which direction you land, the runway is 1600 to 1800 feet long. End to end the runway is 2300 ft long. A STOL airplane will have no issue here, and most general aviation aircraft can fly from here - as long as the pilot is careful.

For more information on flying in visit:

We rented a golf cart and went for lunch in the beautiful town center. This is my favorite airport to visit here in Florida. I highly recommend a visit.

Cool airport and a nice approach and landing. I remember you landing here in a C150 as well. Enjoyed the video. Take care and blue skies and tailwinds always.

Awesome Pedro and Caralyn. Enjoyed our time last weekend. Looking forward to more. Apopka and Cedar Key are fun little airports.

I landed my Bonanza with 4 people in 1980. Great strip and great diner as well. Probably took a little longer than usual on takeoff with 4 full bellies. 😅

I've landed and took off from this airport in my C172, it was fun. Merritt Island Airport (COI) is also a fun small airport to land and take off from.

LSA can land on a third of that runway. It's paved. That's luxury :)

I'm a denizen of the Great North, though translated far enough south that I enjoy looking for my house during your launch/landings. The secret to warmth is wool. Socks are #1 because that's the first extremity the body cuts off to stay warm. 2nd, equally or more important is Navy watch cap because that's the anatomy the feet were cut off to keep warm. Next is a scarf wrapped around the neck and crossed over the chest. Cashmere is super soft. The cap and scarves you could keep a couple of spares in the plane for when they're *needed*. Driving gloves are also good especially working outside grabbing cold metal and hauling the plane around.

If you can't land a typical airplane on 2300ft, you shouldn't have a license.

Great video. After seeing this I wish I had setup some camera’s. I the same flight in the Seminole on Feb 5th. It was absolutely stunning and now I wish we had more time and had gone into the town and not just take photos and leave. Love X04 as well an amazing Airpark, something here in Australia we can only dream of.

Your home airport looks more tricky than that short Island Runaway :)

Very nice. The Apopka landing looked trickier than Cedar Key.

Nice little runway. Looked mighty warm compared to NW IL. Snowed yesterday here. 40's is about shorts weather for us 'northerners' lol. Thanks for the video - take care hope the family and you are doing well.

Nicely done. Loved the Restaurant as well when I went last year.

When I saw you thumbnail I knew it had to be Ceder Key. It's actually a pretty fun approach.

Random YouTube algorithm suggest this video and lo and behold to my surprise the “real” airport nearest my house (although Seminole lake gliderport is much closer). Neat to see!
Never actually been to Orlando Apopka. Been by it on 441 never to it. I should fix that.
