That's quite an interesting way of thinking. In my mind, I recall life as sort of a film, perpetually being recorded, and it varies in clarity and precision based on how focused I was on the thing when it was actually happening or entering my brain. So words in a textbook, novel, article, video or else, things said in lectures, conversations, everyday encounters, videos, whatever I am wondering or fantasising about, and every other place and landscape I see is recorded. To keep it in my head, organised and basically permanent, I take some time to do nothing everyday. Usually at least half an hour, but preferably more. Luckily for me, my commutes to uni and back are sufficient time to do this. I just sit and let the day pass chronologically through my head as I remember it. Obviously, I don't remember everything because I wasn't focused on everything. But once you develop the ability to control your focus and emphasise it at will on the things you want to remember _while you are in the moment when they are happening, _ all you need to do is recall those things later in the day and they will be stored more easily and more accessibly in your mind. I still have clear and organised memories from when I was 3, although only of a few days which I seriously wanted to remember or impacted me in good ways. Also, even in regards to uninteresting content from a textbook, try to associate some positive feeling with it. While you read it and understand it, try and look out the window, at the light or trees, and let the information sink in while you are not stimulating any other senses. Likewise, at the end of a study session, try and emphasise on how relieved and satisfied you are with the work done. Then, in recall of that satisfaction you felt, you will remember the contents of the study session with more interest _because_ you know they led to a nice outcome.
Perhaps this is very vague and very unsolicited advice, but I doubt anyone will read it here so idc.

I don't have a visual imagination but can do similar by tying things to music. It's a matter of tethering things together.

Isn't it the Memory Palace technique ?

This is why I love science subjects. I just picture what’s happening and I remember it forever. That and biology’s just super interesting

Been doin this for years now, but still enjoy your insights..!!!

That is a good tip for a more of an image thinker who finds it more difficult to remember verbal contexts, but it wouldn’t be as useful for a mind that operates more in verbal contexts aka words & writings and finds it more difficult to remember precise imaging though

What you're talking about is called Memory Palace. The technique has been in use since people in ancient Greece and Athens first started using it.

I usually use this for short term memory, for example if i have homework that ill do in the morning i will connect it with the image of the table that ill right when i wake up. Or not forgetting the keys while leaving with the doors image etc.

What if you have aphantasia and cannot visualize? What do I do then? I didnt know people could literally visualize grim reaper dressed up as a granny getting chased around by a bitter old man

Interesting way of viewing it. I usually just "take a picture" of something I want to remember. Sometimes those pictures get corrupted or blurry, but they are still there. I am better at remembering numbers though.

I've tried to do this many times, and I always forget the stories I make up I certainly as I forget what the stories are about

This works in reverse also, imagine deleting some memories, keep repeating it, eventually you will forget that or it feels restricted to
access that memory

I think this is precisely why so many philosophers and poets use metaphor and allusion. Like Camus’ Le Mythe De Sisyphe, for instance.

What if I want to remember every moment of my life without distortion so I can go back and learn or come to cherish anything I missed in the hours I spend overthinking anyway?
