As Patriot AI said "You lack the qualifications to exercise free will"

I find it interesting that the debate of free will continues to exist in our civilisation based on reward and punishment.

depends on perspective, if you create a character for a roleplaying game, your character thinks he's doing everything on his own but you're controlling his entire life as the creator and no matter how many possibilities exist, you make it go to the one you want. But the character sees it as his own decision, while you may even play with different versions of said character at the same time, all taking different decisions planned by you.

Free Will and Fate are intertwined, there's infinite fates, as a creator you know them all and plan them all, as the character, you have the illusion of choice, but don't feel bad, don't even care about "the plan", cause as I said, there's "infinite plans", just choose whatever you want, and define yourself as the character you want to be, but, don't treat yourself as a worthless character, beacuse remember, you're also the creator, and that is a big deal, and if you remember it, you won't be able to play as your character anymore, but perhaps that's also part of another plan, who knows, just make the choice, fate or not.

I feel like we'll get closer to this questions answer once we'll figure out what even consciousness is.

Age old question. I’m of the faith and do believe in free will but also believe that we are bound to our hardware so to speak. We are all one head injury away from smearing scat on the walls and dropping bricks on cars from overpasses. Any faithful if being honest will tell you they’ve struggled with this. My conclusion has come to this; I don’t know if I’m truly free willed or just an organically based supercomputer. What I do know is that the non free will argument is a favorite among those that seek to dismiss responsibility for the actions of evil people or themselves.

Kudos for your work! 🎩
I think that you have 1 m of indeterminism to 1 km of determinism, but this can also vary given particular circumstances, especially education and available work.

This was super interesting! I'd like to think that the choice comes as soon as you decide you believe in determinism. You can choose to use it as an excuse to behave badly, or you could decide that the world is a great place and you want to live with kindness. Imagine if everyone became a determinist and all chose the path of kindness and good will.

For me at least, the very fact that believing in determinism greatly alters people's actions and thus the outcomes of their actions and the trajectory of their lives is the absolute exhibit disproving determinism. We may be "slaves to our biology and neurology" but at the same time we can make conscious efforts to interpret them and the world around us and this effort will greatly alter our behaviours and thus the way we are perceived and thus other people's perceptions which will ultimately lead to a butterfly effect of causality.

The mere belief in free will is free will in action in itself.

I like the concept you are showing in this video, but you misidentify Free Will, if we think of our mind like a container holding water and the water being our choices and decisions, any outside force acting on the container, will show in the water, but no matter what, the container is what moves the water. The mind influences our choices even if there are strong outside forces pushing on you to do a certain thing, because like the water bouncing back against the force, our choices will come back through our mind to push back against the outward forces, Free Will is actually the container pushing on the water, not because of any outward forces, because the container wanted to. thats it. dont over complicate Free Will, it isnt a giant tangle of pieces coming together to result in an action, because even if everything WAS pre-determined, we would have no way of knowing, and thus its futile to try to predict the future. Free will is a sentient or concious creature choosing to do something. thats it.

Love your thinking. Could you turn down the background music though, so I can hear your voice better? (Subscribed.)

We invented Gods to blame them for things we do not understand. Free will carries responsibility.

Determinism can lead to Nihilism, believe me I know. It is a dark path to take but also is somewhat liberating knowing that in 10, 000 years nothing you have done matters.
The only way I have been able to rationalize the idea of free will is if somehow our conscience is outside this universe and not subject to a grand unified theory (maybe consciousness is the link between relativity and quantum mechanics?). Don't even get me started on what happens when you take hallucinogens or anesthetics (NMDA antagonists) like ketamine. The realizations one has can be horrifying. Keep in mind I am not gullible enough to fall for sky fairy delusions, so it is impossible for me to have faith unless I get a TBI.

I am a full hearted Christian and I love science but I haven’t watched this video yet I will put an edit once I finish it but for now I’m going to say if I have a choice to kill someone or not then I have free will. But I will let you know my thoughts afterwards

Edit: alright so I finished your video very very good video but here is what I think, I have compatibilism or however you spell it I’m sorry, but free will yes we have, for example God can have someone in store for us to marry but we can ruin that relationship, and ruin that plan for God to want us to be with that person, but we don’t have free will in: who our parents are, the situations we grow up in early childhood years, and where we are born etc etc but yes I believe we have free will when we reach the age of 8 or 9

I can prove that we are not in a simulation in a paragraph.
A shadow list
If two identical lines of code run on an identical machine they will produce the same result. If two computers run the same program say a random number gen. 5 times they will produce the same list of random numbers depending what step the sequence is on.

You and people who believe in determinism are overcomplicating this situation. If you didn't have free will, love couldn't even exist. Some people who are highly intelligent throughout history have wasted time on this simple subject because they make elementary errors in thinking and reasoning. Determinism is impossible for our species period. It's just a way for some people to try to get out of accountability and the majority of us seen right through this crap. Philosophy will always trump "Science" and the truth will prevail.
