As India goes to the polls in 2024, Modi still looks like favourite, but the challenges he faces are getting harder. So in this video, we explain why a new opposition alliance, recent state election losses and the conflict in Manipur could spell trouble.

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!

As a center left Indian there is higher possibility of sun rising in west than modi losing 2024

Western media seriously don't understand anything about India 😂

Never in india should you equate state election results as the predicted outcome of national election.

I wonder how that coalition of Liberals, Communists, Islamists, Regional parties will work out.

Just for context, in 2018, a year before the general elections, BJP lost 3 major state elections (Rajasthan, MP, Chhattisgarh), still they won a landslide victory in 2019.

I live by the philosophy "If TLDR posts a video that someone might lose an election, that person will win the election."

If dogs, hayenas, leopard, wild boar, pigs, wild buffalo drinking from same pond means in other pond is The Lion.

Just for viewers: Right Wing In India doesn’t translate to Right wing as In US

He isn't losing in 2024. Like him or not, Modi is an electoral juggernaut and Rahul Gandhi can't win an election for school prefect without his last name. Plus the INDIA alliance is really unstable and may not even last until the elections.

Watching this from Zimbabwe and thinking what a cute little analysis. Westerners really do live with rose-tinted glasses.

It’s funny how according to foreigners any Hindu party and Hindu leader automatically becomes right wing 😂😂😂

Manipur has only 1 seat in Indias Parliament. Manipir is a very small state as per Indian standards.
Also Manipur incident is a historical issue not a result of bjp or modi policies.
In fact Manipur and neighbouring states aka North East India has been the biggest beneficiary of Modi's infra development which is something which previous govts ignored

TLDR data analysts must understand the difference between Loksabha elections (Parliament - to run the country) and Vidhansabha elections (Assembly - to run individual states). People vote differently for different elections. Therefore you'll see BJP being bashed by TMC in West Bengal assembly elections, but the same party smashed TMC in 2019 General Elections.

people in India vote differently for state elections and general elections! Although BJP lose some state elections but there is no way Modi will lose 2024 general elections! Basically people dont see alternative of Modi for the post of Prime Minister...
Alliance INDIA was formed only for their own survival & alliances formed for survival dont last longer..

I doubt Modi will be defeated in the election.

There is no clear alternative to him to the position of premier and the Indian National Congress is not as strong as it used to be under Indira Gandhi..

While the vote consolidation for the opposition could put a dent it is unlikely for him to lose

Modi may not be right about all coalitions but he's right about ones like this one... a grand conglomeration of parties whose only real commonality is "we're not them."

They may have some initial successes but it's not long before the constituent parties all start to want to put their own narrow interests first and the infighting starts. That's when the whole unstable mess falls apart.
