2022 Kia Niro HEV Hybrid review | Australia

In this video, Jenny checks out the latest addition to the Electric Vehicle market in Australia and it’s from KIA. It’s the all-new Kia Niro HEV.

Even though the NIRO is based on the KONA platform its offerings will still be a little different and it will be offered as a Pure EV which is 100% electric power, a plugin hybrid that has an internal combustion engine as well as a battery which can be plugged into and charged, and the version we featured in our review. Which is a HEV, in other words just a regular ol hybrid, which is probably the least exciting of the lot. But also the most affordable entry point.

Even though the Kia NIRO is new to Australia, the NIRO has been around on some other markets for a few years now, so it doesn’t benefit from the latest updates in the Kia-Hyundai families.

In the coming weeks, we will do a review of the Niro Electric and hopefully also the KIA EV6 as soon as it gets released down under.

The HEV version has a 1.6 petrol engine with direct injection. It produces 77 kW and 147 Nm of torque. The electric motor adds 32 kW and 170 Nm for the combined system output of 104 kW and 265 Nm, the latter from 4000 revs. The 1.56 kWh battery weighs just 38 kg.

If your focus is simplicity and practicality over cutting edge style, you should value this relatively affordable way to get into the electrified field and have a less environmental impact, the Niro HEV is an accomplished small city SUV.

I use too click just cause Jenny was hosting but that is a honest balanced review as she described as mediocre and fuel economy let's face it poor I predict this will flop like the Subaru xv m hybrid all that money for little gain in performance and economy .A couple thousand more better off with the RAV4 hybrid 160kw combined excellent performance and outstanding economy about 5.8 per 100 and that's a bigger more practical SUV and current looking not yester year
