At a hospital I worked at. The lithium battery hospital portable workstation shorted out and battery caught on fire. The staff reported the fire shot out like a rocket engine. The metal box the lithium battery was located melted. The toxic fumes required evacuation of that hospital floor.

What no one is talking about is even in a small collision there can be battery damage that may trigger a delayed short circuit and battery fire days after the collision. If a EV is in a minor collision it's not to be parked in a garage or close to other cars until the battery condition is checked over. I'm learning to completely avoid the current styles of EV's that are using dangerous battery systems.

Lithium battery fires in general are much more dangerous than people realize. For one, they can happen spontaneously. You are asleep and the phone on your nightstand suddenly turns into a blowtorch.

My 1967 Alfa Romeo was like a not-so-smart but loving dog. It depended on me for everything and was dependable, when maintained. Maintenance was easy and understandable. Its nuts were metric - not one 'inch' and the other 'metric'. It never ran off for no reason and stayed when I wanted it to stay and never, ever burst into flames.

As a 21 yr police officer having investigated thousands of collisions, this is spot on. Please stay off the phone while driving, it can be fatal in the blink of an eye. Very tragic and painful to make the death notifications. Drive safe. Thank you Scotty for this.

I thought the whole point of EVs was to conserve resources! LOL! The EV Hummer weighs in as much as a friggen armored car!

This is a real eye-opener! All of this information revealed here I was not aware of. Am not a fan of EV's to begin with but have many friends who are. Thank you for posting this video!

Professional Firefighter Medic in the Bay Area. We are east of San Francisco and our community has EV’s everywhere. I have seen with my own eyes people trapped in these vehicles and burned alive. Not to mention malfunctions that have occurred where the driver has lost control. THESE VEHICLES ARE NOT SAFE. I use to own a Chevy Volt to commute. Got rid of it and got myself a Jeep 392 (thanks Scotty)! lol
Please be safe out there guys, these vehicles are a real threat to the community

Not to mention the fear first responders have when approaching an EV, first they try to find the key fob and get as far from the car as possible to keep it from inadvertently moving, secound they have to determine if the 400v of the battery is shorted to the body, finally they have to figure out how to safely cut for extrication without hitting any major power cables.

As a retired firefighter paramedic I can tell you the extrication training will need to change due to the batteries and their electric hazard. Even with air bags and other safety features, a high speed crash or roll over will be more significant and will cause more serious injuries. Extra weight is a serious concern.

The other thing about EVs is that they can turn into a literall ball of fire after a collision if the battery gets damaged, and it is a hard fire to put out requiring hours of firefighter supervision before it's deemed safe

Interesting points. The big one I had always thought about was the batteries, like when Richard Hammon crashed that Rimac electric hypercar, and the batteries kept catching on fire for months afterwards

I'm old school, I think a driver should always maintain control of their vehicle.

I can only imagine how much MORE car insurance will cost us.😭

There needs to be a secondary crash safety rating based on the severity of damage an EV inflicts to other vehicles of varying weight and body type.

I have a Toyota RAV4 hybrid. I immediately noticed a difference when handling turns in my Toyota compared to my normal gas Mazda CX-5. I REALLY miss my Cx-5. I don’t feel as safe driving in winter conditions and now have to drive more cautiously.

It really is sad how many people are on their phones while driving. Blows my mind how people can be so incredibly selfish, and stupid.

I witnessed a fatal wreck between a Ram 3500 CTD and a F150 caused by the Ram's driver dropping his cell phone. All 5 people in the Ram got out uninjured and started calling on their cell phones. Poor guy in the F150 killed instantly.

I'll never own an electric car. Ever. Everyone I know that has them say they would never buy another.
