It's pretty screwed up that season 2 didn't bother getting back to what they had achieved in season 1 until the very last episode of season 2.

In the exact same manner that ruined the Star Trek Picard series, it appears the main "fault" of these new Star Trek shows is that they are relying far too much on the actor's brainfart ideas, focusing too much on comedy and utilizing "teenager-level" dialogue writing, rather than have the professional writers telling an interesting, cohesive story. I love Patrick Stewart, but the biggest mistake they made in ST Picard was allowing Patrick Stewart to "run the narrative"...which they thankfully corrected in season 3 and Patrick Stewart had to learn the hard way that his approach to seasons 1 and 2 weren't welcome by Star Trek fans. At least in Picard, the writers took over and told a proper story to end the TNG timeline. It's quite clear - unfortunately - that Patrick Stewart didn't really understand either his Picard character or what made TNG work. And it sadly appears that the actors in SNW don't understand what made season 1 work.
I can only hope that season 3 of SNW will ignore the actor's brainfarts and rely SOLELY on the writing team to write a proper story...not just "playing with silly ideas from the actors" like they did in season 2. After season 1 of SNW, I was excited for season 2. Now...after the debacle that was season 2, I have zero excitement for season 3.
Honestly...who cares what the actor's want? It's not their franchise and people are Star Trek fans because they love Star Trek...not "gimmick of the week" nonsense we've had in season 2.

Season 1 gave me some hope for the series, but season 2 was a step backward. Too many gimmick and "comedy" episodes, and far too little of what the series is named "Strange New Worlds". The acting is great, the set design is great, they are trying to make a good show, but the writing is terrible. The Orville did a far better job at creating interesting stories and situations. Please hire some people with a history of writing (and understanding) science fiction.

There won't be a Season 3 if Season 2 doesn't stop pumping out garbage. The last 'Musical' Episode was unwatchable crap.
