Just recently, I re-watched the DS9 episode "In the Pale Moonlight". While not directly about Section 31, it was an amazingly-written and acted episode that delved into all the nasty things the Federation was willing to do when its back was up against the wall, and the moral fallout that the characters must struggle with.

And then we have... this.

Why do the current Star Trek handlers seem to think Section 31 is James Bond in space? There is even an episode of Deep Space 9 mocking that kind of concept.

So who is the target audience for this? It looks dreadful.

Section 31 used to be one of the most fascinating concepts introduced to Star Trek; can the Federation utopia only exist with a terrible organisation to do the dirty work? The powers that be at Paramount saw that and said wow cool spy people go pew pew pew! The worst part about the current representation of Section 31 isn't even the countless lore contradictions, it's that they don't even attempt to tackle with the original moral dilemma their existence creates.

It should also be noted that Section 31 was created to be an antagonist to Doctor Bashir and a lot of what made it interesting was Bashir's recurring struggle with it.

What was once a clandestine group of spies and one of the most interesting storylines of DS9 is now reduced to a thuggish division of the military. All Paramount saw in Section 31 was an opportunity for more phaser fights and action sequences.

Ugh, I’m usually much kinder than everyone else in the comments, but what is this?! Section 31 is supposed to be scenarios where I accidentally bump in to you, say sorry, and you die 2 minutes later. They are supposed to be the worst to protect the federation. I don’t know who they are making this for? This just makes me sad.
