Yes!!! This works amazingly when it comes to language skills as well. I found myself progressing so fast with pronunciation and fluency when I recorded myself and listened back to what I was saying.

And if you're not learning a new language, just talking to your phone/camera also works wonders in helping you with articulating thoughts better and improving your tones as well while speaking so it sounds more engaging and less monotonous! 😊

Oh no, now I will have to record myself while I do math.

Not exactly the point you were trying to make, but I have an example where recording you doing something helped tremendously. I was teaching one of my kids to drive. She just wasn't seeming to get what to do with her hands to turn smoothly. No matter how much instruction or input I gave. I got the idea of recording the steering wheel for about 5 minutes of driving. Then showing her her own hands, then she finally understood what she was doing wrong and it suddenly clicked. Her turning was great from then on.

Thomas, this is an incredible tip for physical activities which can be literally seen from outside.
Anything for skills like writing, designing, or learning?

So here's two points where recording myself has helped me tremendously.

1. Workout. Honestly, I thought my pushup was perfect I saw the recording and realized my hips still lead the way even if I tighten them up. I recorded my pull ups and realized my thoracic extension gets messed up at the top. It also provided me great feedback regarding my posture which I thought was finally getting fixed, but it wasn't.

2. Programming. So I can't record myself for that one, but I pretend like I'm coding "live" in front of people. That makes me more focused when I look up a problem on stackoverflow.

Thanks for the tip I never was able to articulate it like this.

Good suggestion! Used to have a communication teacher who told us to record ourselves doing presentation and all so we could look back and see where we could work on :)

I appreciate you reaching out back to your audience. I found you one of the best because you actually at least put on the facade that you care about what you say and the people you speak to ✊

Now I'm recording myself coding data structures. I need to change my posture, thanks Tom, helped a lot 👍

Great tip 🙌🏽 I do this as well when I just want to be productive in general like when studying and cleaning. It just works. Being “watched”, even if it’s just by my future self, makes you want to do better.
