Can't you just slide go from first to second with going back to neutral first? It seems rather slow to change this way

This is is the way i was taught. Not just skipping gears and eding either in a higher hear or if you're unlucky. Going from say 4th at 60mph, to 1st gear by mistake and goodness knows what.

If it's a common pattern for Gear then it will be convenient to everyone to adopt it.
Example of pattern is
1---2---3-|
|
R---5---4-|

or Just change the number as per the suggestions but if the pattern is C or mirror image of C then it's good I believe it. How is that?

Everyone can do that however the problem is that not everyone can move the car by shifting the gear from nutral to 1, which is the hardest part. One you can get the car to 1 then the test it’s easy. It’s even mor challenging to go from Neutral to 1 on an up hill. I haven been shifting gears for years.
