Your explanations make SO much sense! I have been suffering from severe neck pain, stiffness, forward head posture and limited ROM for many years (I'm only 40). I've gone thru several PTs without much results. I do have several spine issues and conditions but never had anyone address possible relation to diaphragm or breathing for the cause. Coincidentally I had a laparoscopic surgery Nissan fundoplication hiatal hernia repair with mesh 15 years ago. This surgical repair was successful until 4 years ago. It has come undone and the mesh holding my stomach in proper position had detached and is now shoved up under my...DIAPHRAGM! I also noticed a huge increase of having shortness of breath. I've had asthma since a child so I didn't think much of it. After my surgery 15 yrs ago I developed several bilateral pulmonary embolism (blood clots in my lungs) which severely changed my lung health. This just so happens to be around thr time my neck issues really progressed!

Thank you so much Conor, you are the only person I found who addresses thr diaphragm and how breathing incorrectly affects your body. So grateful.

Excellent video. The root of my issues are my teeth and jaw allignment, tongue tie etc.

Excellent! I went to my PT for this exact issue. I had a terrible swelling in my upper gums in the back top molar. Previous to the swelling I had pain in my temple (same side). I visited my dentist, he put me on an antibiotic and sent me to the endodontist thinking I may need a root canal. No root canal, but she advised a night guard in case I was gritting my teeth at night. The endodontist didn't see anything on my teeth to indicate bruxism, she felt the muscle in my cheek and said it was swollen. Then I saw an oral surgeon whom said my teeth on that upper back area were perfectly fine. It later donned on me to go see my PT. He said it was my posture- that I am holding my head more forward than I should. He gave me several exercises. He also told me not to do any weights leaning forward--such as flys, but to do them on my back on a ball/bench/floor. This has helped me tremendously! I am very thankful for all your video also! It's always good to have a few opinions and new exercises. I had known hip issues for years (extreme lat pain). I have been doing the "balloon" exercise for a few years among others. It's great to be able to use your exercise too. Gives me variety.

I have a hiatal hernia that affects breathing and found myself in this pattern, so thanks for the video. I still really feel someone like you who understands the body's movement relative to organ placement and other factors (PRI) could shed a lot of light on topics like mechanics behind hiatal hernia among other similar ailments - even bloating could put someone in a pattern like this.

It’s great that you demonstrate how there’s a lot more involved in the kinetic chain.
I wish your exercises were more geared for people who don’t have all the equipment and are at home.
I enjoy your videos and have to take bits of what I can to apply for my hypermobile body as I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome, hypermobile type(hEDS). It’s much more common than originally thought. Actually, hypermobility syndrome‘s in general are.
Also breathing deeply laying on the stomach or with a heavy book on the chest as a means of activating the appropriate muscles, also helps.
The one’s you do on the floor with the head moving towards the direction of the raised arm, are good for preventing TAO.

This absolutely rings a bell with me but unfortunetly I'm from germany where PRI isn't really a thing yet.. I constantly have pain in different parts of my body that comes from one day to another without any obvious cause and I can feel my jaw being Part of the Problem since there is a lot of tension on it day and night.. I would love to work with someone that has a PRI background

I just inhaled deeply filling my stomach and my T7/6 just cracked back into place, relieving some mild pain I have had for the past 4 days

I don’t have my bottom molars and I clench my teeth so tight at night. I knew this was what was causing all my pain. My X-ray shows loss of cervical lordosis and my mri doesn’t show anything significant. Nobody will listen when I say it’s coming from my jaw. I’m sure that’s what caused my neck problems.

All you guys who suspect bite and neck should watch the Founder of PRI Ron Hruska lecture that dropped in August.
Search: Mandibular Temporal Latero Movement Influences part 1.

I wouldn't believe it if I didn't live it. It's like Ron is describing me personally. Everyone feel your hard palate and see if one side is steeper and the other more shallow. That's a good indication you live in a TMCC pattern. And I won't forget this phrase Ron has in that lecture. Putting a palate expander in before you've made the palate neutral is creating " disharmony on top of dysfunction.". So you don't want to bum rush any old orthodontist. Your cranial bones need to be more neutral and ready before you get fitted into orthodontia and possibly palate expansion. I have a class II underbite and nasty sleep Apnea just like Ron identifies which is classic for underpinning these patterns. I've already started the orthodontic consultation process.

I enjoyed the lecture, information to be exact but not so much the exercise. I apreciate you focus on root of the problem. Hopefuly you can showcase more exercises that open up the ribs.

So when I expand my rib cage, the left side chest muscles, shoulder, shoulder blade area tends to kinnda shiver a bit. Like they are weakened. I probably have a pinched nerve in my neck that goes down to my shoulder Balde. Now I get it. The whole disfunctional breathing thing.

Can wisdom teeth cause similar issues? I've removed them and the one from the side of where I have chronic shoulder and head pain had the roots pointed on the outside, basically really close to the nerves. But the pain never went away after that surgery.. how does that works?

This is something I've been cursed with since I got braces 10 years ago. Nobody, or hardly anyone, seems to understand the significance of the bites affect on the body. Even "routine" fillings from a dentist can send a person's posture spiraling downward.

My teeth haven't touched in over six years, as I have been in a bite splint to try and level my bite. Needless to say, my life has been a struggle as my body seems to constantly change, therefore my bite changes which then requires a splint adjustment. I've been chasing my tail for years and haven't figured out a way to make things settle.

I love your videos and wish you were close to where I lived as I would love to work with you.

I saw Neal Halinan in NJ and he did the normal PRI ROM tests with and without a mouthguard and noticed significant improvements. He referred me to Dr Laura Torrado an airway dentist in NYC. She started me on a pallet expander and is still fine tuning a lower mouth guard to help with sensory input. It will be a long process, but nothing else has worked so far, so my hopes are high. 😬

I don't understand how these exercises are supposed to work. They're not strengthening exercises. So what am I accomplishing in 5 minutes that will override my tendencies for the other 99% of the day?
