Is the OLED version really that difference to worth 100 dollars more?
The First Steam Deck was released with an LCD Display and after only 1 year, Steam Deck OLED was released surprising everyone with a slight performance boost.
Here’s the only spec differences that differentiates between the two models.
Early version has a 7 inch IPS LCD Display whilst the new model has a 7.4 inch HDR OLED Display that gives more vibrant colours and a truer black.
The refresh rate of the LCD version is only 60Hz and the OLED version can go up to 90Hz.
LCD version has Bluetooth 5.0 with Wi-Fi 5 and the OLED version has Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E.
The OLED version is 19 grams lighter than the LCD version.
Playtime differences matter. And the LCD has 2-8 hours of gameplay and OLED has 3-12 hours of gameplay.
The OLED has improved Processors and other internal components, although users agree it is not a big enough difference for the average gamer to feel.
Only noticeable performance difference is that the OLED version has better cooling and quieter.
Price changes with the storage capacity. For reference, the 512GB versions of LCD vs OLED has a $100 difference.
A Steam Deck 2 announcement may make the upgrade to OLED not worth it
