I wonder how much you can stretch the battery with a capped frame rate and an undervolt. Would definitely be interested in the results. Great video!

It’s perception! I rarely play more than an hour at a time so battery will never ever be an issue for me. For the steamdeck glossy oled is perfection!!!

the LCD model has been measured several times to 550nits and not the conservative 400nits value that Valve's specifications say. And I hope people don't play games like this, maxing out the Steam Deck at 15W. In AMDs official APU documentation you can clearly see how performance/watt drastically decreases at 10-15W (LCD model). I personally always set demanding games (like Cyberpunk or Elden Ring) to a value of 8-10W TDP and adjust settings accordingly. This setup will offer a real world battery life of about 2.5-3h on the LCD model. Personally I am super curious to see battery consumption comparisons at "realistic settings". Like light weight 2D- and emulation at 3W, XBOX360-era games at 6W, modern demanding games at 8W or 10W.

The reason for this is that some games just use a lot of resources unnecessarily (even if you lock framerates). Sure, the power draw from the GPU goes down, but the CPU will just gobble it up. This is not a hardware issue, but rather that game developers on the PC side have always targeted max performance on desktop computers, completely disregarding battery life. They run game logic either on a "per tick" basis instead of "per frame" or they keep CPU threads busy to make the cores stay at max clock speeds at all the time. In those scenarios a locked framerate doesn't help and you have to force a TDP lock.

This is really impressive. I could only imagine what the specs that the Steam Deck 2 would have.

If Valve can increase the battery capacity to 65Whr, plus Zen6/RDNA5 SoC, and 32 GB of RAM then you got a next-gen powerhouse.

Valve didn't make it 3x because they cant count up to 3😂

Awesome, using the same nits on both screens made the test much fairer!

Can you do the same test between SD OLED vs NS OLED?
Same nits, same fps, same game (Not The Witcher or Hogwarts which have completely different graphics on Switch)

I was about to get an LCD one, but this video changed my mind :'0 I thing I prefer to save a little bit more...

Capping the frame rate is the way to go. Smoother, and better battery life. I think you could have gotten over 3h with a capped frame rate of 30 fps

If both are in same graphic settings why i cant see clouds in lcd model?

Do another vid at 5w and 10w.
I’d also like to see how far you can stretch the battery with Forza Horizon 5 at lowest graphics 30fps cap

Have these results been verified elsewhere and on different games? If so its a massive leap forward...

Are the games setup on daytime scenes (in game on both consoles)? Looks like the OLED is playing in day and the LCD is playing at night. Or is the OLED that much better in color accuracy?

U set 100% for lcd and 80% for oled? That's not even fair

Out of curiosity, how old is the steam deck lcd on this video? And how used up is it?

I mean a 2 year old steam deck that's being used by a real gamer literally everyday would make a huge difference vs just a steam deck bought for review and stored in a shelf 2 years later to use for comparison.
