Splatfests in Splatoon 3 has been one of the most mixed opinions in the game. While many love it, many hate it, so in this video, I'm going to be covering the overall pros and cons with the Splatfests in Splatoon 3!

Note: During the "voting" section, I said the Splatoween Splatfest of 2023 was the one that broke the streak of the popular team winning the overall Splatfest, that was incorrect. It was the Greeting Splatfest right after that broke it, meaning that streak of he popular team winning the overall Splatfest is at 6 instead of 5. Whoops lol.

Splatfests comes down to your effort and mentality, people giving up, or making excuses. Popularity messes up ur team’s performance as ur forced to win more. Tri Color comes down to defense and offense depending on the team, and people in Tri suck cuz they think one attacking team sabotaging another attacking team makes it worse. They have to work together but people wanna get clout so bad they forget on winning. Fests are fun but I grind to help win for whatever team I’m on

I used to love tricolor, I have no idea why they got rid of the dynamic of the advantaged team always being defenders. Thats what ruined it. Mirror matches didnt use to be possible. I havent played tricolor since they changed it, they basically killed their gameplay gimmick

I feel that Splatfests lose their fun as soon as Tricolor is unlocked on the second day. The first night/day feels like regular turf but more competitive and fun, but the latter two feel like painful slogs where the enemy teams strangle you every match. Fests are fun, but those three days tire me out more than a week of regular playing.

I want to throw my hat into the ring on these takes.

Tricolor con: While what you said is true, it does become a waste of time because of mirrors…I would argue that mirrors are the time to…actually enjoy the mode. Because Tricolor clout earns the most points, you would probably be too focused to enjoy the unique factors of Tricolor. (And I mean, why wouldn’t you? If you’re on one of the two attacking teams, you have SIX players killing you.)

3 Team Splatfest con: I want to say one team becomes too popular because of the split between Japanese players…and honestly the rest of the world. For example, team Love was more popular in the states, getting all these mirror matches…yet team Money was still most popular overall. Also, your point about sponsor Splatfests? Yeah, kinda false if you are in Japan as some of the exclusive regional fests there were collabs with 7-Eleven and some chip company I don’t really know about. (Which mean yes, Nintendo caring more about Japan stays true, it never left.)

Voting con: Kinda repeating what I said before. Usually the most popular team ends up being made up of mostly Japanese players and…do I need to mention how good they are at the game? Moving on.

Miscellaneous con: The main reason why players hate the fact Splatfests take away ranked is…because there is no such thing as casual players. Also, Big Run being a threat? What a joke as you see NO ONE in-game freaking out about the Salmonids taking over. You go look at the idols during the event and you see them still laughing and having a good time.

All that being said, if Splatfests removed every playable mode and just made it so you watch the idols dance for 24 hours, I would still be down. Sue me.

There is one thing you forgor:

Pro: Multiplier - Now i say this is a great motivation to play more to get the hype when getting multipliers and even better when winning them

Cons: Multiplier - This is also a bad motivation becuase you can go almost all night just to get none or even worse either getting it, and then losing it or even dc'ing

One thing that always bothered me in earlier Splatfests was having the results global yet only have regional matchmaking, essentially allowing Japan to single handily deciding the outcome, and this happened multiple times (White Chocolate, Money, and Solo come to mind first). While I’m on the subject, the translations from the Japanese question to some of these are WAY DIFFERENT than what the rest of the world is given.
Example: Frostyfest question asks to Japan “Who would you rather spend your time off with?” While the rest of the world specifically asks about the holiday season. Those are two completely different questions.
This wasn’t as bad in recent Splatfests as Japanese polls suggest that Bunnies and Theme Park were more popular in Japan but both of those teams lost their Splatfests. Making them more unpredictable, both of these occurred after the update to give second place points for the categories.

The most popular team winning constantly winning explains why they reduced the amount of points winning popularity gives.

I know people don't like the points change with 2nd place getting points but I like it cause it means whoever is popular doesn't automatically win. Also, wait what? Team Ghost won Splatoween and it was the most popular team? I'm confused.
