This is not a backup. This video shows how to transfer an account when you do have your phone with an instance of Google Authenticator. What if I lose my phone with that instance? The idea is to create a backup for that case

What about if you don't have a second phone? I want to make a backup before I do a factory reset on the one phone that I have.

Doesn't a transfer of an authenticator account from one device to another eliminate access from the old device. My understanding is that just like Highlander, there can only be one. I was looking for a REAL way to backup codes, in case you have to replicate the one working account. I have a feeling, perhaps wrong, that people attempting to use this method will actually be deleting the old account. Lets see the video when you try to reboot the original app after transfering it to another device. Does it still have accouhts on it? Do they show the same numbers? Otherwise I suspect FUD.
