Beginners Guide on How to Backup Google Authenticator Codes

Показать описание
This how-to guide explains how to backup Google Authenticator codes. In this video, I show how to back up your Gmail codes in case you lose your phone and not if you have already lost your phone as that is a different process.

Unfortunately, backing up your phone just isn't enough as when you reload onto a new phone you will no longer have access to your google authenticator codes.

Therefore you need to ensure that you backup your codes individually and store the secret/backup key somewhere safe to be able to reload onto a new phone.

This is only for Google Account.
Google Authenticator is used for many other services.
How do you backup the codes for other services from Google Authenticator?
Title is misleading. It should be: how to backup 2FA codes from Google Account.

The title is a bit misleading, this only backups gmail/google account codes, NOT any other accounts. I was able to string together what I need to do from this and other videos, so thanks.

Thanks for this video! I like the style of it, and good information!
A humble request, if you're open to it: I'm looking for a nice beginner-friendly video for just generally how to use Google Authenticator... I'm finding some with good info, but many of them are a bit obnoxious in their style, and I worry they'd scare off the tech-shy person I'm hoping to share something with. I think your style would be a welcome one. Any chance you might be up for making another video??

Hi Louise, thanks for this important vid. I have now made a backup of my Google Authenticator codes, 10 in all. So if I understand you correctly, I need to use one of these codes to restore each of my apps (that uses 2FA) onto my new phone. Is this correct ?
What if I have 11 apps that use 2FA ?

When I get to the step at 2:12 it does not say "Show Codes" it says "Set Up" instead. I'm stuck because I already have my authenticator set up on my phone. Why aren't my phone and google account synchronized?

If you have a backup of your iPhone, and If your iOS backup is encrypted then the google Authenticator and all associated 2FA passwords restore when you restore backup to new phone. Appreciate the guides you make.

I dont have the google authenticator under 2 step verification. When I click it, it tells me if I want to set up a 2FA for every time I sing into gmail which I dont. I would just like to back up my info as Im getting a new phone.

Thank you! I would like to know more about having google authenticator on multiple platforms with the same codes. Just in case my phone breaks or gets stolen, I am able to access my keys regardless. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Thank you Louise for your excellent tutorial. I really screwed up by uninstalling google authenticator from my android. Now when I try to reestablish it, it's asking me for my name and security key. I typed in what I thought was my key but it won't work. Can I get one that works from the section called security key ? Or is it good by for good ?

Thanks, This was one of those accidental discoveries finding this video. It's perfect, my wife had got a new phone and it was a nightmare hooking it back up to one of the exchanges. Looks like you have a lot of crypto videos. Thanks again
