I love how you spoke in the reverse. I hear, think, react, and understand your rejection of said statement

Back in 2008, I sold 38, 000 cds on my own here in Vegas. I had "meetings" with EVERY major label and they offered the same contract. An upfront "advance"(which was less than my salary as a financial analyst), an exclusive contract, (one label said the contract was "universal" so even if the Klingons came down and wanted my music they had to go through the label). All offered a royalty rate of 12% of wholesale(which is meaningless now), minus deductions for production, promotion, and the advance. They all demanded my publishing rights, control of my website, and control of my masters, even though I have my own publishing company and my own studio where I can record, mix, and master without any outside help. And don't forget the "reserve on return" clause to hold back your royalties for "breakage" which doesn't happen with downloads. Needless to say, I said NO. I have no intention of being "broke and famous".

The smartest artists are the independent ones. All they need is good management. I’m a rap/hiphop music manager locally. I’m 23

Sign a publishing deal with the record label at the same time as you sign a contract without understanding at all what this means
