I love that you put Mr. Elliot (Anne's father) so high on the list! I think he is a villain that doesn't get talked about enough.

I loved this! This was the well-articulated rant that every Janeite needed 😆 I would argue that Willoughby's love for Marianne is real, but it's a selfish love, so he's still a villain. Have you read Jane on the Brain by Wendy Jones? In it, she argues that Mr. Eliot is a sociopath. It's such a compelling idea!

John Willoughby is my number 1. I just find him to be the cruelest, the little girl that he literally forgot about to be happily "in love" with Marriane. And his little speech didn't do anything to redeem him, he doesn't value women at all, he just uses whatever woman and he speaks badly about them when he's done. The way he tried to share blame between him and a 14 year old???

I'm so glad you put Henry Crawford on this list - he's truly awful, and it baffles me that some people actually think he was sincere in his feelings for Fanny and could have possibly been redeemed. Sorry, but no! I was so glad they did not end up together - he was totally unworthy of her.

I’d switch the top two. Willoughby is utter evil. Also hate John Dashwood so much!
