How Toyota's New Truck Hybrid System Works | 2022 Tundra & 2023 Sequoia

For the redesign of their new trucks and truck-based SUVs, Toyota decided to design an entirely new hybrid system. The new rear wheel drive hybrid is a polar shift for Toyota which up until now has used a variant of the same hybrid system in everything from a Prius to a RWD Lexus LS. This system is completely different and oddly similar to the F-150 Hybrid.

This V6 hybrid was developed in place of V8 engines and when you calculate the savings versus a similar power V8 then you see how much more efficient it is. That really should have been mentioned. The hybrid drive replaces the extra 2 cylinders.

I’ve only had my 2024 Tundra TRD PRO for a week now but I’ve been monitoring when the electric motor only seems to be utilized. I’ve noticed in Eco mode, the electric motor only mode kicks in much more frequently when you have the adaptive cruise set than it does driving it gently without cruise control. Gas mileage seems to improve too.

Hopefully they get all the bugs out before they launch. Our 22 Sienna hybrid has been in the shop 3 times for battery
draining isssues. The solution still hasn’t been resolved fully only to disable a few features that maybe causing the problems!!
Hopefully Toyota will figure out these problems soon.
