Attorney Tom Grieve is a former state criminal prosecutor from Wisconsin before eventually founding what is now the state's largest criminal defense firm at more than 20 attorneys. In 2019 the firm expanded into family law and added a dedicated team of professionals to further serve clients with similar aggressive and proven strategies.

Beyond the courtroom, Tom has been interviewed and appeared in numerous media outlets, ranging from the New York Times, CourtTV, Fox News, Reuters, Washington Post, National Public Radio, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, among many others. He is a frequent Continuing Legal Education course speaker to teach lawyers and judges in developments and the law, both in Wisconsin and nationally. Finally, Tom has also presented across the country, both online and in person, concerning the law and culture to the public.

In addition to speaking engagements, Tom has also contributed to the national conversation in writing on emerging legal topics and has been published in Conceal Carry Magazine and elsewhere on multiple occasions. He also edited the book and contributed legal input on various other publications, including the "Wisconsin Guide for Armed Citizens" on behalf of the National Association of Certified Firearm Instructors.

Tom Grieve is recognized among the top Wisconsin and Milwaukee area lawyers. Recently named once again as a top Wisconsin criminal defense attorney, Tom was inducted into the “Wisconsin Rising Star” category by Super Lawyers (a nationally acclaimed attorney rating organization). He was also chosen as a "Top 100 Trial Lawyers" in Wisconsin by the National Trial Lawyers Association. Tom was also chosen for the "Top Attorneys of Wisconsin" by both Milwaukee Magazine and Madison Magazine.

Thank you. I switched from USCCA to AOR. The USCCA exclusions for drinking and restricted areas are big issue for me. I think your presentation was incredibly well done. Informative and balanced. Much to think about. Thank you.

A few problems.

1. This video is already outdated. Attorneys On Retainer (AoR) now has coverage for misdemeanors. They've also upgraded their bail amounts and other things.

2. As far as attorney-client privilege, four words. Kayla Giles. Alan Collie. Ask USCCA how those two got thrown under the bus by USCCA, who denied coverage. With ANY insurance based coverage, you waive your attorney-client privilege.

3. I asked USCCA repeatedly (6 or 7 times, different people on different days) a hypothetical. If I went to a bank at night after hours to deposit cash and, in violation of state law, was carrying at the time and was forced into a self defense shooting, would I be covered? They refused to give me a straight answer. The policy says you are not covered if you are in violation of any law. I have yet to receive a straight answer from USCCA, which is one reason I dropped them. CCWSafe has the same clause in their contract but they told me on my first call that they would cover me and have covered others in such a scenario, but that they wouldn't cover any misdemeanor trespassing charge for being armed on bank property. This is not what the contract says but they did offer this up verbally immediately.

4. USCCA changed its coverage to add a reimbursement clause in every state without informing members. They insisted to me that they sent out emails with the update, but when I challenged them to show me a copy of the email, they would not or could not.

At this point the AOR coverage has stepped up to the plate and expanded coverage to include appeals, misdemeanors, higher bail amounts, etc. That's who I decided to go with. I could argue it's a conflict of interest to have an insurance company - whose main interest is in not having to pay out - having control of my attorney and having access to privileged info about my case.

I was a 7 year member of USCCA until yesterday. Recoupment clause in contract was a deal breaker for me. They claimed on phone that they rarely ever use it but that is not good enough for me too.

No hate mail, Tom. You’re an astute and a respected attorney. I was looking forward to seeing you address the case of Alan Colie. He didn’t go out to commit mass murder at the mall as you rightly claim would be a disqualifying factor. The trial judge allowed self-defense argument to be made at his trial. And he later was acquitted of the two felony charges. So was he or was he not a USCCA member? If he was, why was he not covered?

AOR added misdemeanor coverage and doubled their bond amount.

In the end as the consumer I want the companies to compete to provide the best product to the consumer. I've had USCCA, FLP, and now AOR. One thing I can say is that AOR has shown to listen to criticisms, make changes to improve their products and services in a short period of time. The changes I've seen with USCCA is that the insurance product is a complimentary product to the online training. Years ago it was the insurance that was the main product and the online training was secondary. As far as the insurance product, not much has improved from what I see.

Sure would be nice to hear from the USCCA why they didn't cover Kayla Giles or Alan Colie

I have been with CCW Safe for many years now and live in Los Angeles, CA - I will never leave CCW Safe and always make sure my annual renewal goes through far ahead its expiration date.

Attorneys On Retainer seems like a much better option than an insurance company looking for anyway possible to deny coverage.

Switched to AOR. A lot of words from an insurance company that has failed to cover 2 of their own members that were found not guilty. 0 explanation or apology, nothing. When the chips are down I don’t want your “exclusions”.

This is exactly why I left the USCCA Tom. You’re not being up front about what their insurance policy requires. You, as a USCCA attorney, are required to share case information with the insurance company. That’s not privileged information once that happens. I moved over to a legal defense fund (not AOR). I choose the lawyer. They’re not required to share otherwise legally privileged information with an insurance adjuster. They don’t cover murder either. But if they deem your situation self-defense, you’re covered. Tell the USCCA to dump the insurance company, convert it to a legal fund, and I’ll come back. What’s hard about that?

So...AOR legally can't post bail in WI. On the other hand, they also won't decide mid-trial to yank my attorney out from under me. Decisions, decisions....

1) AOR has been pretty clear about the 3 things have to happen to get coverage.

2) They now cover MISDEMEANORS

3)If I hire the law firm, I’m expecting to use their lawyers, why I would hire a law firm not wanting or expecting to use THEIR lawyers ?

4)Bail has been increased up to $50, 000 payment for a secure bond of $500, 000

I think the most comprehensive self defense company is AOR. Nothing against USCCA or the other companies, but I think they (AOR) are pretty straightforward.

AOR is definitely the better option, USCCA is dropping people in cases they should be backing up. 🤷🏻‍♂️

USCCA has to many exclusions in their insurance coverage. Read their contract.

I've known about Marc Victor for many years now. I've always thought he would be a great lawyer for me should I ever need one in a gun case. Now I have him on retainer for $25 a month. What a deal!

I’m a member of Uscca and watched your video. Scrolled down and saw a video critique of Kyla Giles vs Uscca. Any comments?

I'm member of Armed Citizens Legal Defense Network Inc. They mention Massad Ayoob as being on the advisory board. Could you please do a video on there service. It can get pretty confusing trying to figure out everything on our own.

I completed a CCW course in CA and had a USCCA rep come talk to us about their services. He went over you could use a firearm, knife, sword, crossbow and you’ll be covered. He made it sound as though they got your back. But after reading the fine print. I opted to go for AOR. At the end of the day USCCA is ultimately an insurance company. Insurance companies love to deny claims if it saves them or makes them more money.
