I’ve always just called the gliss a scoop or fall depending on direction. Sounds great . Sometimes coming in on one solid note sounds nice too. Like Sanborns probably me solo for sting and Clapton.

6:59 - Great example of "Down from the Note" is the beginning of Gene Ammons solo on "Hittin' the Jug." Those two beginning notes are a good part of why I went and bought a saxophone at age 66... with no musical ability or experience. Before i actually received the delivery of the (cheap chinese) sax I was afraid that I might get discouraged and end up hanging the sax on the wall as decoration😅, but after maybe overall a cumulative of four to six hours of practice I am falling in love with the sax learning experience and can play the notes on the first page of Dexter Gordon's version of ""Stairway to the Stars, " (but I have quite a ways to go with it😄) However I cannot even come close to Ammon's "down from the note" at the beginning of his solo, so maybe if i study your video here, i can pick it up better. Thanks for the video.

I got my alto sax about two weeks ago, and I'm self learning how to play using books and videos. I've been working on my embouchure and scales. I just want to know if it's ok to practice these kinds of tricks and dynamics or if I should wait until I get some experience. Thanks.

Great video and love your enthusiasm. I've tried growling a million times and just haven't gotten it with either technique. I've been playing for over 60 years and this is my Achilles heal. I'm hoping your encouraging video gets me there. Keep up the great work. Oh, and the very last part of your video had me on the floor laughing. I sit next to a fellow in big band and concert band who does that awful cat-in-heat scoop and thinks he is hot stuff. We all cringe. So, I know what you're talking about. Thanks again.

Hi. Just a question about scooping up to the note, eg. F to A, would you then finger each note in between and use throat and embouchure as well? Thanks for your great videos - I am learning so much from watching them
