Do not try and bend the girlfriend, that's impossible.

Instead only try to realize the truth.

There is no girlfriend.

I love the idea of a small side character giving seemingly useless advice that ends up save the protagonists life

Notice the kid has 5 spoons already bent on the floor, he's bending the 6th. another hit/metaphor about matrix being reloaded five time before Neos time (Architect explains this to Neo)

I remember watching the film for the first time and thought this was a cool little throwaway scene. Many years and many rewatches later, I've come to realise that this might be the most important scene in the movie. It's the scene in which - in no subtle terms - the seed of understanding is planted in Neo's head: that everything in the Matrix is simulated. Nothing is objectively real. Neo can see a spoon; he can hold a spoon; he can hear the noise a spoon makes if he taps it. But the spoon does not actually exist. All that exists is a flow of electrons and neurons to his real-world brain telling him that there is a spoon in front of him, whilst his real body is connected to a machine generating those signals. This seed grows into a bigger belief which he begins to apply to everything in the Matrix - we see this reinforced later just before he and Trinity go up the lift shaft to the rooftop and he says to himself "There is no spoon". Minutes later, he is moving faster than physics decrees possible and (almost!) dodging bullets. Still, there remains some deeply ingrained conditioning from his 30+ years of life as Thomas Anderson which holds him back; it's only when he is eventually shot by Smith in the hotel corridor and apparently dies that his mind finally lets go of all that he had accepted as true throughout his life, resets, and accepts his new reality. He is reborn and when we see the Matrix through his eyes this time, we see it for what is truly is: there are no walls, no doors, no ceilings - only lines upon lines of computer code. And there is no spoon.

I wonder how many people just stared at a spoon for an hour until they finally gave up after watching this movie XD

The boy was trying to iterate to Neo that by maintaining awareness of the fact that You're in the Matrix and that all physical things that "exist" within said Matrix don't actually "exist", the ability to "bend" the rules becomes apparent and achievable (Morpheus also tried explaining this at some point)

"What if it was a fork?"
"Oh yeah, you can totally bend forks. That's very possible."

Moments like these made the 1st Matrix superb. The errie atmosphere, the mistery, the weird kid, deep philosophy...

I seriously think The Matrix is the best acting Keanu Reeves has ever done. He literally spends the entire film as someone who is lost and clueless, but it never feels forced or awkward. Neo has to react to everything around him and still be a compelling character and Reeves pulls it off.

I found a correlation with this particular scene, and how Neo obtained the ability to bend himself exactly like the spoon when he was dodging all those bullets. He started using his mind to "bend" himself just like the spoon. Very powerful scene indeed which helped Neo evolve his abilities in the Matrix. Neo starts to realize he can bend the reality around him in the Matrix the way he wants to.

After watching the matrix many times, I can honestly say I think this is the deepest moment of the film.

To understand this scene you simply need to replace the word spoon with reality.
"Don't try to bend reality, that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth. What truth? There is no reality. Then you will see that it's not reality that bends, it is only yourself."

And for all of you that seek happiness and meaning in life, this exact same theory applies to the "reality" we live in too. Truly learn to understand this and your life will change :)

I might also mention how genius and ahead of it's time the creators were, so many metaphers in the Matrix that apply to our world without people realizing it.
