Using FreeDOS - EDIT

The standard FreeDOS text editor is really easy to use - but that doesn't mean it lacks in features. Let's look at a few features in the standard FreeDOS text editor, EDIT.

Thanks for watching!

Writing on this is pretty enjoyable. It's almost like nano for DOS. been using it as part of my workflow

That's a pretty useful editor. :) I never bothered looking into what MS-DOS had to offer with its EDIT options, but the FreeDOS one feels nicely polished. What stood out is the proper plurals in the stats. I wonder if the maintainer will implement the gettext plurals in the future. :)

As for suggestions, this one might go hand in hand with the programming tutorial you mentioned in an earlier comment: presenting an IDE with some basic features for indentation, syntax highlighting and checking, plus other features. What do you normally use - RHIDE?

VDE by Eric Meyer for me. It's the best editor and it's the reason I am still here in Dos.. 😂

The help system can't be accessed unless you invoke EDIT from the C:\FREEDOS\BIN directory.

I'm curious. As I know there wasn't arrow keys on old keyboards so how you moved around in text editor in first versions of dos and dos like! operating systems? Was there something like vi motions?

How do you close the ascii panel? I've pressed Ctrl + F4, but it closes the entire application and returns to the command prompt
