I love how Jack Horner is basically the embodiment of modern Disney. He acts goofy and playful while committing atrocities and is on a mission to own all the magic in the world.

I think the reason Jack Horner is better than those poorly written OP villains is because he’s a parody of those poorly written OP villains. He was the “funny” villain and the cricket face palming after Jack talks about his childhood was icing on the cake.

He's just so gloriously, unapologetically evil.
He could have flicked away the "ethical bug" at any time, but he engaged with it, humored any questions it had, laid bare his hopes and dreams-RIGHT up until the bug accepted he was beyond help. Job done, life affirmed, Jack was immediately done with him but still, he waited for the bug to come to that conclusion on his own because he knew it would happen eventually, that his mere presence would break someone who believed there is good in everyone

Jack Horner breaks a lot of rules when it comes to story telling. He’s 2 dimensional, yet charismatic and interesting. He’s incompetent, yet powerful and a legitimate threat to the protagonists. He’s projects a goofy and humorous tone, and yet completely sinister in a dark way. Characters like him usually don’t work, and yet he does. It’s one of the reasons I love storytelling so much. The medium has the ability to be flexible in ways that can delightfully surprise us.

Jack Horner is the nearly the same as Doofensmirtz from the 2nd dimension. The dude was extremely evil and successful and the reason behind his actions was because he lost his favorite toy train as a kid.

As a lawyer, I can confirm that people like Jack definitely exist in real life.

favorite thing in the film is Jiminy Cricket calling him an irredeemable monster, and Jack Horner just goes "Oooh oooh, what took you so long IDIOT"

"You're not gonna shoot a puppy are ya Jack?"

"Yea in the face why?"

That made me laugh so much, Jacks humor just hits me so perfectly in the right spots I wish we had more villains like that

But I also think if Jack was the only antagonist of the movie it wouldnt have worked so well, the fact we had 3 made them all stick out so much more perfectly

A lil detail that imo makes it

EVEN FUNNIER

Is that he smiled a lil before telling Cricket the gaff about breaking a few bakers but THE WAY HE DID IT makes me think he kept Jimini around JUST to break his brain

Which is HILARIOUS

I think there is a minor theme in the film of taking the people around you for granted I.e.” Puss in Boots walks alone!” and Goldilocks not valuing the family she has. In that regard I believe Jack Homer is that taken to its villainous extreme. Someone who has no regard for anyone who will sacrifice and kill the people trying to help him without a care.

At first I thought Horner was the 5 minute screentime, evil mafia collector from which they steal the map.
But then he packed his stuff and went to became the most likeable evil just-because villain ever.

Not only is Jack one of the goofiest villain we’ve seen in a movie in a while, being evil for the sake of evil, but he’s also a one-liner machine. “Ohh, ohh, what took you so long, idiot?” and “Yeah, in the face. Why?” are two of the best

Another nice analysis :) lol ironically Jack Horner talking about that all he had was a loving home, a thriving business, crap like that was my fave line from him. It was messed up, comical, and it really brought the point home this man is just out for himself despite the good he had.

I think everyone loves Jack because the type of villain that he is just hasn’t been done in western animation for a LONG while.

I also liked how he didn't change the deal for anyone. He paid for the map and got the map from the murderers, and when he was being stolen from didn't expect them to help. It was a nice businessmen troupe

Another commentor put it perfectly. Jack Horner is the Pay to Win player lmao

I love how his design reflects who he is. He doesn't look like an adult. He looks like a big child and that's also how he acts, like an entitled brat.

Death is very much a villain. You have to remember that he isn't there to wait for pusses eventual death, he wants his last life asap and enjoying to savor the smell of his last moments.

I thought I wouldn't like his character but I was proven wrong, I loved this guy. His weapon of choice is so cool! A bag with infinite space inside full of various magical weapons from different stories, so cool.

I'm so glad Nux decided to talk about Puss In Boots 2. Nearly a month after watching it in theatres and I still can't get over how much I love this movie. And Jack Horner was definitely a big reason for that. 😁
