Business Development Skill #1: Creativity
The first business development skill you must have if you want to succeed in sales and business development is creativity. If you're working at a company as a business development rep, you may have to develop your ideas of who you should prospect. Business development executives can not always rely on being told what to do. You have to look at who your current customer is, understand their pain points and main drivers to influence them to buy, and prospect into more companies experiencing similar pains.

Business Development Skill #2: Listening
The next business development skill is learning how to listen. Listening is critical for B2B sales and business development because you first need to understand the pains a prospect feels. Without any pain, a business development manager can not make the sale.

Business Development Skill #3: Grit
Finally, the last business development skill is grit. As a BDR or business development rep, you'll continuously be facing rejection nearly every day. It's essential to have control over your emotions and push through even when times get challenging.

Don't wait for someone to tell you how to reach out to someone or even who to reach out to.
