Im imagining a wonder effect that makes you a goomba, you can't jump and you die if an enemy lands on your head. Enemies are transformed into Mario look-alikes and gain the ability to jump, turning the tables on us the players by making a normally easy level more difficult but allowing us to get the wonder seed if we succeed.

The wonder effect is present in the stage with the bills and the Yoshis, so I think that all the characters had changed into yoshis, thus basically confirming your theory

I think the yoshi levels we see could be a level where you turn into yoshi. Because if you look at the color scheme of them you will see that there is a color for mario, Luigi, yellow toad, and possibly blue toad.

My personal opinion is that the goomba is an actualy main playable character along side the rest, and that the gooma either ate blue toad or blue toads hat has that power. it would be nice to be able to beat the game as a goomba.
