Photoshop CS6/CC: How To Cut Out an Image & Remove/Delete a Background

With Photoshop it's really simple to cut out an image, remove the background and change the background to something else. I'll be showing you how to remove a background in this English voice tutorial which is easy to follow for beginners and advanced users on a novice level. I will be using the pen tool to delete the current background on an image and replace it with a new one. Cutting out an image can be great for editing an outro, making a thumbnail and so many other reasons like cutting out an object from a picture to add to your YouTube banner.

For anyone out there who is a total dork like me and couldn't figure out why the 'make selection' option wasn't even available: make sure that after selecting the pen tool, that the 'Path' option is selected in the drop-down menu at the top left (Under File, Edit, Image, etc on PC). Mine was default to 'Shape' for some reason, so every time I tried to trace my image, a new shape layer was formed, and I couldn't make a selection/mask/etc.

Alt left click to remove excess points, click the selection button with feathering and anti aliasing, Ctrl+J to make new cut selection after cutting the previous image. Good stuff!
