I think what he meant to say was "the 2nd and the 6th", as that's what he's demonstrated. Those "two notes" added to the minor pentatonic scale gives you the Dorian mode. Out of the G minor pentatonic scale, he adds the A (2nd) and the E (6th), creating a heptatonic (7 note) diatonic (5 whole-tones and two half steps) scale. Flatten the 6th (Eb) and you have the natural minor scale, or Aeolian. Learning these extra intervals can break you out of the pentatonic trap David was talking about..

the issue is that it's no longer a pentatonic scale = 5 notes. It becomes DORIAN = 7 notes & the 2nd mode of the major scale.

The 2nd and the 9th are the same note.
Also you can make every single note in the chromatic scale work, if you understand its function.
Say the chord is E7.
EGBD are 1-3-5-b7, the chord tones which you can stay on all day.
Then there’s 2-4-6 which are scalar passing tones from the Mixolydian scale, also quite good but not as safe as the chord tones.
Finally there is: b2-b3-b5-b6 and the major 7th which can all be used as chromatic passing tones. Now b3 and b5 are Blue notes which are easier to use than b2-b6-7 (pretty much just chromatic passing tones),
Count! That’s all 12 notes!
1-3-5-b7, 2-4-6-b3-b5, and b2-b6-7.

There is also a trick where you just add one note, and it forms the blues scale

It depends...some guitarists get boring extremely quickly using just a pure pentatonic scale while others like Mark Knopfler use it in clever ways.

Why not just say Dorian mode? Anytime you play more than 5 notes it's no longer pentatonic anyway. 6 notes gives you a hexatonic and 7 gives you a diatonic

I love how this ‘if you give a mouse a cookie’ thing came up in your shorts and it’s now a trend. When I hear that ‘if you’ in the first half second I know to stop, listen, and learn because I’m about to receive some bona fide knowledge

Ehhh that's the beginner pentatonic. You can play the pentatonic in various ways and have it not sound like the pentatonic and bore ppl. I think it's more crucial to learn the notes in a scale then the shape because once you know the notes you can play up and down the neck. Even some Tim Henson stuff is even pentatonic at times but no one would ever know because he floats around the entire fretboard

I think most people listening can't tell the difference
