Some tips on Laura's bass tone. She isn't actually using a vintage jazz bass. It sure looks like one, but it's actually a cheap Chinese knock-off that Mark got her, by the brand SX. It has the chrome plates which make it look vintage. She also changed the pickups to DiMarzio jazz pickups. She has a foam mute under the strings next to the bridge. She also plays with flatwound strings which helps a lot for that tone as well, and finally she turns up the tone knob all the way, and the body pickup all the way, and the bridge pickup off completely.

Impressive how you nailed Khurangbin’s sound. Clearly, the essential ingredient is the wig.

Khruangbin are a band that should not really exist, but they do! They seem to have come from a very unpredictable musical direction and created a sound that is an unlikely success. They don't fit in with much that I would normally listen to, but I find myself really liking them. Absolute credit to them for creating something so different.

I think you did a good job on the breakdown and the last song at the end. I love Khruangbin and I like this video and all the effort you put in putting this together. ❤

Great video! I love the format, it’s fascinating to see how every layer is made and how they fit together, makes me appreciate each even more.
Totally nailed the final song as well, especially when the full vocals kick in near the end👌

The wig on amazon is fundamental device to add to the ableton rig. Genius. Very well done even though the secret of khruangbin is a book from fumio sasali. Everything is kept to minimize the amount of freqa where it matter - your drums even if tidy they still keep to much room in the spektrum - especially the snare and the vocals. So far great job / very plesant track and great skills audio and video! Bravo

Amazing video! Cool fact about Mark's speer guitar, he uses flatwounds in a strat (very unsual but creative idea) getting rid of the low E string replacing the E string with an A, A with D, D with G, G with B, and two e strings, giving it room for a warm sound but preserving the brightness that's essential for Mark's twangy tone. Also one of his guitar pickups was faulty and that somehow made the tone sound cool.
He's a creative guitarist!

Until you figure out a way to wear 3" heels and sway your hips hypnotically, you're going to continue to be missing Khruangbin's most important ingredient. If it wasn't for Leezy's hip-swaying, no one would even know what a "Khruangbin" is.

2 mins in and I’m subscribed. Using music theory to do a deep dive on bands that actually make interesting cool music is massively underserved. Bands I’d love to see in the series:

Sonic Youth (maybe split into different eras)

Television

Big thief

Pavement

The Dirty Three
