The finesse funker shows the wide variety of sounds he can get with just five pedals and a wah that never goes off.

Reverb addict Mark Speer and badass bassist Laura Lee met with Premier Guitar’s John Bohlinger before their ultra-hip, sold-out show at Nashville’s Basement East. Speer and Lee took the crew through their non-conventional approach to nuevo-vintage tones.

These are the best pedalboards. Normal pedals and tons of personality and talent.

Next do a WIG-rundown with Mark and Laura

Mark speaks human very well for being from another world.
Loved this band from the very beginning. There are two "bands" that I have zero fear of recommending to anyone.
This band and Charlie Crockett.

One of my favorite modern players. Love the basic board. The talent and tone speak for themselves

Mark is one of the best doing it right now. Discovered "Krung-Bin" not that long ago and this trio seems other-worldly. They play extremely well together and I am sure that seeing them live would be a trip!

Had the pleasure of seeing Khruangbin live, Mark's tone was amazing in person. He used the trick at 4:29 with the expression pedal controlling the delay feedback often throughout the show, mostly for transitions, and it was amazing every time, the whole venue was filled with that whirring tape oscillation sound and then he'd pull the repeats back right as the next song started

I like his approach. Nice sound with simple gear. There is no substitute for talent.

"Boutique Boss DS-1", I love it! This guy has some healthy confidence, very down to earth!

3:43 The Boss Dyna Comp. 😂

I love how that slip of the tongue was probably not on purpose. He’s covered up the labels and has just maybe forgotten. Either way it hurt my brain for a split second. 😂

Mark's one of the best modern players up there with Jesse from Men I Trust, insane tone, really nice guy too. Saw them live earlier this year.

Saw them in Osaka last month. Great. I love Mark's simplicity and humility in all he does.

This is a complete opposite approach to what I do. He uses mostly skill and the pedals just add spice, whereas I use pedals to compensate for poor skills. My dude has got real talent.

As a DS1 fan I’m happy to see it get soo much love this year.

The wah trick is really cool. Love how small the board is too. I gig in New York and I have to walk with my gear a ton. I try to keep a minimal board too
