“It’s better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.” This has always been, and will always be great advice. The only way to learn is by listening.

Don't take your work issues to HR, they work for the company, they WILL lie and screw you over.

Big thumbs up for this video! I‘m in my 30s and used to overshare informations about myself in my 20s only to realize that i damaged my reputation. Now i keep everything secret.

Keep to your self. Old school saying " Tell them what they want to hear, tell them what they need to know".

As someone who’s in their early 20s, this is something I’m still learning - keeping certain things to myself.

I'm going to STRONGLY disagree here. Going to HR about a problem 99% of the time is a VERY bad idea. HR is not your friend and are there to mitigate the company's liability. A lot of the time if you go to them about a problem YOU become the problem.

Speaking of work, where you work is another thing you should generally keep private. One time I found this chick posting extremely offensive things about religion, a protected group in discrimination cases, on FB and the very first result when I Google her name is her LinkedIn profile that states where she works and all of the organizations she is associated with. All someone would have to do to potentially screw her over big time is screenshot those comments and share them with her employer and those organizations.

Being an introvert helped me naturally not talk about these things with others.👍🏾

I keep everything to myself. Even good news.

I try to stay quiet about my goals. I don't talk about the women I have talked to. I don't have a therapist. I work in Corporate America. We can't do anything. I am quitting soon. The environment especially while being black is very restricting.

Keep everything to yourself!! My grandfather shared that with me back in 1975 and he didnt lead me the wrong way!! The only person one should share with, is YOURSELF & only YOURSELF!!!

we have 2 ears and one mouth for a good reason. Talk less, ask better questions, be present and listen to understand not just to reply. You will win people over most if not all of the time. Great video brother!

One of the best pieces of advice was from my grandmothers, many years ago. She said, “Don’t let nobody know your business!” Every time you use a credit card, you are letting the world “know your business”! Use cash whenever possible!

The workplace advice is vital… When you keep your opinions of the work environment to yourself, you’re able to stand on your own. Once you start bitching, complaining, and gossiping, you are becoming part of a clique with common thoughts. You will also stunt your professional growth.

This is an awesome video. I would like to suggest ONE thing in that you I advise against sharing workplace issues with HR as they do not function for the employees, they function as a staff entity to protect the company and they are NOT confidential. Their loyalty resides with the executive staff. If you have workplace issues, consult a lawyer as at that point; once you hire said lawyer, you have attorney/client privilege.

Great video Jeff
I totally agree with this!!
I tell people 3 things you should keep private; money, romantic life and your next move. If you can keep those parts of your life private you'll live a pretty peaceful life.
