In today's video, I'm sharing some natural ways to support the health of your mouth, but more accurately, the health of your oral microbiome because ultimately it's the microbes who are in charge and they can impact the health of your entire body.

A lot of people feel dental professionals are only trained to recommend Fluoride. Here in Oregon we spent weeks in school being assigned to debate both sides of the topic.
I recommend fluoride for many people. Losing teeth takes a huge toll on your ability to eat fibrous foods like meat, veggies, and nuts, and older people, especially those with a dry mouth almost always develop decay on the root surface of they are not using a fluoridated toothpaste or rinse.
There are some patients I have that are fine without it, but please take the advice of your dental health professional before you decide. Decay, infection, filings, and a decreased ability to chew have a much bigger impact on your immediate health, I see it everyday sadly.

Hi
I finished my education for dental nurse couple of weeks ago, so I'm impressed by the fact that you didn't have any cavities considering you didn't use fluoride in so many years. In school we where taught that you need to use 2cm toothpaste containing 1400ppm fluoride two times a day to get strong teeth. I absolutely think there should be more studies about more natural choices for dental care, maybe the world could look little bit different in couple of years then.

Many of the chemicals that you spoke about can cause headaches and as you touched on are endocrine disrupters. So this is an excellent video as people look at people who don’t use toothpaste as weird.

Another toothbrush alternative is a toothbrush stick that comes from trees and is cut to reveal the bristles it is known as a miswak stock or a toothbrush stick and those are completely biodegradable as it’s from a tree and pure that way, some don’t smell the best, but you can always soak them with mint water or mint oil to change that.

Coconut oil and some other oils are also good for pulling and you could soak herbs in them and use them for pulling.
This is an excellent video and it’s good to see people talking about this.

I have stopped using conventional mouthwash for 6 months and use a natural mouthwash and also use the coconut floss. I just need to get away from the fluoride free toothpaste. Yes it was very informative. Thank you joy.

Thanks for showing these different options! Have you tried "toothpaste" tablets? I'm thinking of getting that for camping. :) I just went to the dentist this week. Because of COVID it had been more than 1.5 years since my last exam/cleaning. It wasn't so bad and don't need to go back for 9 months. I have some troubles with my teeth and I've been using a fluoride treatment at night. My dentist and the hygienist recommanded I continue with that and recommanded also a toothpaste that has a different type of fluoride in it. I really see a difference in the health of my teeth since using the fluoride treatment, so I think I'll continue using it as long as it benefits my teeth.

Love the recommendations, but considering you aren’t a dentist or dental hygienist like you mentioned, maybe you should change the title of the video to something like: What I use for my oral health care routine. Just to avoid any problems with people possibly taking your advice as gospel or replacing their dentists advice.
As a nutritionist myself I find it so so important to NOT tell people to not listen to their doctor or dentist. It’s just not our place.
But by all means educate people on the facts, and tell people what you do personally if that floats your boat! :)

Any natural reccomendations for a very dry mouth? I have a condition where a side effect of the medication is zero saliva. Thanks for another great video

I have a question about dental X rays for you. Since you’re into natural, non-toxic holistic health, how often do you get dental x-rays? I also go to get my teeth cleaned every six months and I constantly argue with my dentist because they always insist on taking x-rays and I constantly refuse except about once every two years. I once read many many years ago Dr. Andrew Weil said to only get dental X-rays every couple years at the most to limit radiation exposure. Yet my dentist says the X-rays are digital and extremely very low radiation. What do you think?

What about the waste of an electric toothbrush? I get so angry because I’ve been through 3 the past 10 years because the brand I buy constantly changes their model and then they stop selling the replacement heads, probably to force you to keep spending $100 on a new one.

I love you, but I have to disagree about using Backing soda as I feel it is abrasive. Simple test, get a pair of your plastic sunglasses and rub with your wet fingers and baking soda on your glasses lens, then tell me if you don't see swirl and scratch marks.
