Trinitarianism vs Binitarianism debate! Kelly Powers vs Mario Shepard debate is the Holy Spirit the Third Person of the Trinity? What does Binitarianism believe about the Father, the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit? Is Binitarianism biblical? Kelly Powers vs Mario Shepard debate hosted by @faithfultheology channel on is the Holy Spirit the Third Person of the Trinity? Trinitarianism vs Binitarianism debate on Who is the Holy Spirit?

Explaining the Trinity doctrine in simple terms from the Bible. Monotheism and the Trinity are biblical. The Bible does teach that there is one God, and the Bible teaches that the Father is God, Jesus Christ is God, the Holy Spirit is God. How can one God be 3 persons? How can Jesus be the Son of God and God? Who is the Holy Spirit?

Hello all. This was a very good respectful debate. This is the first time I have ever talked with one who claims to be a Binitarian. It was interesting. I believe my opening proves that the Holy Spirit is a distinct person from the Father and the Son, and demonstrated the Trinity is biblical. I believe the information in this debate from Mario about "allos" another from John 14:16 was misrepresented. I don't have the references he cited but will look into it over time. The cross examination was very interesting in this discussion, and again believe that Scriptures clearly demonstrate the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct persons. I have respect for Mario from this debate, he seems genuine, but I believe has been misguided in his journey. Pray for him and show respect in your comments here.

When you have seen this please share your thoughts.

Lord bless,

Kelly

Thanks again Kelly Powers @BereanPerspectiveApologetics for Defending the one and only triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Thanks to Kelly and Mario for having this discussion. I have never met a settled binitarian, though I have spoken to unitarians and polytheists.

Question for Kelley: 1 Sam 10:6 in the LXX: was Saul turned into a numerically different man? Or another qualitstively? The same word for Allos there.

Hi Kelly, at the video time slot of 1.11... When Jesus appeared to His disciples in John 20.22, and breathed on them the Holy Spirit, in your understanding, was Jesus fully God, did the fullness of the Godhead dwell in Him in His resurrected body at that time?

Great job Kelly, you should have brought John 15:25 which affirms John 14:16

Thanks to both of you for such a great debate so far. I'm 56 Minutes into the video and Mario made a good refutation of Kelly's interpretation of John 14:18-19, where Jesus says: "I will not leave you as orphans, I WILL COME TO YOU."

Kelly interprets Jesus as referring to his Resurrection appearances, but he omits the very next verse (verse 20) which gives clarity and context:

John 14:20 (Berean Study Bible)
"ON THAT DAY you will know that I am in My Father, and you are in Me, and I AM IN YOU.

Clearly this proves Jesus is speaking specifically of the day of Pentecost, when he was to pour out his Spirit on the Disciples when he said "I will not leave you as orphans, I WILL COME TO YOU."

So it's clear Jesus wasn't speaking of his post resurrection bodily appearances as he had not yet ascended to the Father to then be able to come dwell IN THEM.

If I have to wear a label for my belief on the Godhead, I must admit that I too am a "Binitarian, " and have been so for the last two years. This is my first time seeing a debate on binitarianism and hearing of this guy Mario but so far he has come to many of the same conclusions as I have.

I don't believe this is a salvation issue and I don't discount the trinity completely (I used to believe it and defend it) but I believe the evidence in FULL CONTEXT shows that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Christ, which is omnipresent and therefore can dwell in billions of believers at once.

Now on to finish the debate....

I heard a lot of guilty by association falacies, "thats the same argument that modalists use", and throwing the "that's your inference" back at mario, without seemingly knowing what it even means to make an inference, and finally just a whole lot of petty comments being snuck in a lot of the questions to mario, with way too much passive agressive "interesting." It got tiresome to listen to.

Kelly could've (and should've) done better than this.

I also think that a lot of the confusion about Mario sounding like he denied God was multipersonal and about wether or not Jesus was "the God", came down to the issue of subortinationism, and its related idea of the eternal generation of the Son, which I don't think kelly was familiar with. I think mario could've done well to have clarified that early on.

So, both sides had their weak points.

With regards to The Father (i.e. "title), see numbers 27:16 & Hebrews 12:9.

YAH (The Father) is Spirit and "the divine source" of "all spirits of flesh, including His Only Begotten Son.

I don’t see we as trinitarians have a problem with the Father and Son in dwelling us bc we recognize that the Spirit unties us with God. We don’t believe the God be cut up in parts.

Brother Kelly was left with no arguments. The bible is indeed implicitly trinitarian and requires inferences and biased exegesis. And seems he relies significantly in the "wrong by association" phallacy "unitarians say that, Jesus only say that" without actually refuting biblicaly the argument. A refutation would be an explicit reference: the holy spirit is a different person. The use of the gramatical third person might be troubling for most trinitarians, but if taken to its natural conclusion, then the son of man is not Jesus but another that is to come.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the Prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Around the 1 hour and 8 minute mark, Mario makes a HUGE BLUNDER in my opinion when he tells Kelly in the cross examination that he believes there's only ONE GOD THE FATHER and there aren't two persons who are BOTH GOD. Unless I misunderstood him, I believe he's saying that only the Father is God, and Jesus is his Son but not God?

If this is correct then this isn't TRUE BINITARIANISM because the Godhead is composed of TWO PERSONS who are both God = God the FATHER and God the SON.

the actual word for another in John 14:15 is allon, which means another (of more than two). So whether you want to use allos or allon, it speaks of another from its primary function.

1John 5:7 Webster For there are three that bear testimony in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one.

I'm a Trinitarian but I have a question about "allos" (ἄλλη). It is also used in 1st Corinthians 15:39 and there is seems to not mean "another of the same stock" because it is talking about another of a completely different kind. Do you have any thoughts on this to help? Thank you and may The Lord richly bless your ministry in Jesus' Name!
