EU leaders have been meeting in France to further punish Russia.
But that hasn't stopped the Kremlin from hitting back.
Moscow has now imposed an exports ban on a string of products.
About 48 countries will be affected, including the U.S. and those in the EU.
Russia is already facing the most severe set of Western sanctions ever imposed on a single country.
They target a variety of sectors including, oil, banking, aviation and people close to president Putin.
So, will Vladimir Putin be forced to stop his war on Ukraine?
And have sanctions worked in the past?

I consider depriving the Russians of Macdonalds and Ikea to be a benefit for the population of Russia.

I don't know much about Russia but your description of corruption in Russia very accurately describes my view of US corruption. Example; money in politics. This alone is exactly the same as you described.

It's not a good sign when I see a news outlet doing a video on "Do sanctions work" every single day.

Based on the comments from the guests it seems that the massive sanctions will have limited impact at best and only a short-term pain at worst.

This was a vitally important discussion of some unintended consequences of sanctions, especially the creation of parallel trading among sanctioned nations.

I'm sure sanctions will make a difference. Question what difference and for whom.

"Watching the mainstream media one gets the impression that Putin one day woke up in a bad mood, and decided to conquer more territory".
Very well said by the Professor from Oslo.

To use the analogy of the preverbial school yard bully, Is there a point when the pronouncement of ongoing almost daily sanctions begin to loose their deterrent effect.
Specific to Russian oil and gas, are the sanctions not likely to simply force Russia to engage China even more ?

Sanctions unless monitored does not work, which over a certain amount of time will fade one way or other.
