People have it SO good these days lol. When I started out as a 3D model artist - Youtube was about 3 months old. There were literally NO tutorials on how to become a 3D model artist. The only way I could learn was to teach myself through trial and error, etc. Back then we didn't have things like Substance Painter and such.. We had to make all of the textures in Photoshop and constantly go back and forth between that and the 3D modelling software. That was 19 years ago and still going strong!

You guys sure this is free?? This is actually better than most paid tutorials online. Hats off to Patricia Dobbins, this is a long and very well made and very informative video.

I'm surprised to see that such a tightly packed UDIM is actually ok to use, especially by someone that's actually working in this business!? I would never dare to keep the UV shells _that_ close to one another, out of fear of textures and paints bleeding over, and with that many meshes! O_O

The thing that you named "metal weird" that you don't know what it is: it's a leather shoulder armor piece :D

Awesome video thank you for sharing your workflow!

Edit: but that "top layers" magic at the end of step 4 is just wow. I would love to see a video tutorial on how to do that :D

When you said around 6:44 that "Everything can be modeled from Pieces, it doesn't gotta all be from one square" does that mean when im doing Retopo, its best to tackle each part on its own and then just link them together? i will admit ive seen other people modeling stuff from a square extruding, Shrinking, expanding, moving and enfacing" and it can be EXTREMELY daunting to even think of tackling stuff when its done like that lol

51:06 hm ok, I never had that problem with stacked uvs and for work stuff I basically stack uvs somewhere on every single asset.

Hi, can I ask you how you squared off the model for zBrush so perfectly? Did you just use insert edgeloop? I can just imagine it being a littlme more difficult because of the previous spacing of faces
